COmmENT Welcome to the first issue of 2023 and I would like to start by wishing you a very Happy New Year. For many years now,
companies have been discussing the skills shortage and the difficulties experienced when recruiting
engineers. Apprenticeships were seen as the way forward, however it seems that the number of apprentices in the UK is declining. I was therefore interested to hear that an inquiry has now been launched to investigate why this is happening. Turn to page 6 for the full story and to find out how you can get involved. away from the first exhibition of the year – Southern Manufacturing & Electronics, which takes place from 7-9 February at the Farnborough International Exhibition and Conference Centre. Now in it’s 25th year, this event is always an interesting one for the Design Solutions team, so we hope to see you there!
