Luceco’s renowned LuxPanel family has recently seen the addion of LuxPanel Extra
Designed to give optimal lighting for areas using computer screens, LuxPanel Extra is UGR19 compliant for low glare applications and comes with a TPa diffuser as standard. Not only does the diffuser have an improved spread of flame rating, the LuxPanel Extra range also has a refined microprism film to reduce the glare with a PMMA Crystal light guide. Following the success of the LuxPanel Extra 600 x 600mm, Luceco has also extended the range by adding the 1200 x 300mm variant. Shelley College, (part of the SHARE MulAcademy Trust) is an upper school and sixth form college on the border between the villages of Shelley and Skelmanthorpe in West Yorkshire
The College’s fundamental beliefs about education are summarised in their mission statement of “Valuing People, Supporting Personal Best”. The College believes this in turn gives students the best chance of being successful in achieving their goals and ambitions.
In early 2019 Huddersfield-based Andrews Mechanical Services deemed the existing open vented calorifiers were to be replaced with two Extreme 500 litre loading cylinders. Installed by well- established contractor Greens Mechanical Services Ltd of Brighouse, the stainless steel cylinders are capable of operating on both open and unvented systems alike and each cylinder can produce in excess of 2,500l/hr at 60°C.
In addition a condensing boilers efficiency is optimised whilst prioritising LPHW to the loading cylinders as the PHE on the Extreme cylinder is designed to operate at a t of 30°C (80/50°C).
The new scheme ensures the loading cylinders now supply domestic hot water throughout the college’s teaching and kitchen areas.

Toshiba VRF chosen for No.1 Great Central Square in Leicester City regeneraon scheme
Toshiba’s award winning Variable Refrigerant Flow (VRF) air condioning has been chosen to provide high eciency cooling and heang for No.1 Great Central Square, part of a £50million regeneraon scheme in the heart of Leicester
Toshiba Carrier UK (TCUK) is a joint venture between Toshiba Carrier Corporation and Carrier in the UK, and is part of Carrier, a leading global provider of innovative heating, ventilating and air conditioning (HVAC), refrigeration, fire, security and building automation technologies. The four-and-half-acre development, being built by Morgan Sindall Construction, includes two new hotels, premium commercial offices and a new public realm area – Great Central Square – in Leicester’s city centre. No.1 Great Central Square comprises 35,000 square feet of open-plan office space over five floors, air conditioned by a high performance, heat-pump-based Toshiba SMMS-e system, installed by Ambivent.
Ten Toshiba outdoor units supply cooling and heating via 40 indoor cassettes installed across the building, with a heat recovery ventilation system in each wing further boosting efficiency and reducing end user running costs. A 12kW Toshiba split system running on R-32 refrigerant installed in the reception area completes the total building
system. High level control and monitoring is provided by a Black Pear system.
“The project was originally specified with ducted equipment from another manufacturer, however this was outside the budget,” said Joshua Medhurst, who carried out the mechanical services design under the supervision of Ambivent’s design manager Steve Thornton. “We proposed an alternative system using Toshiba’s SMMS-e two-pipe VRF with cassettes, as it met the requirements for high quality, reliability and delivery of both heating and cooling with excellent energy efficiency. It won the day.”
Toshiba’s SMMSe system delivers outstanding energy efficiency, with European Seasonal Energy Efficiency Rating (ESEER) values of over seven for all units in the range. It also offers excellent resilience, with two inverter-controlled Toshiba twin-rotary compressors in each outdoor unit, providing back- up in the unlikely event of a failure.
For the contractor, the system is equipped with a wireless wave-tool, which simplifies
commissioning, servicing and system monitoring with Android smartphones.
The project is due for completion later in 2019.

Business and Law and comprises of Bristol Business School and Bristol Law School. Both of which provide a range of undergraduate, postgraduate, higher research and professional courses. Serving 5,500 students and containing 148 offices over seven floors, the landmark academic building is located in the heart of the new developments on the UWE Bristol Frenchay Campus. In an installation carried out by Whitehead Building Services, Zumtobel has created a lighting

solution similar to that of natural daylight in all the circulation spaces, with their PANOS evolution luminaires. The LED downlight range has a colour rendering index of Ra > 80, a choice of three luminaire luminous flux packages with 1000lm, 1800lm or 2400lm and is available in either warm (3000K) or intermediate (4000K) colour temperature. The unobtrusive PANOS evolution disappears into the architecture, providing powerful and efficient illumination. The rest rooms are also illuminated with PANOS evolution. SLOTLIGHT infinity are also installed in the circulation spaces creating an excellent, continuous flow of illumination with no shadows, providing an eye catching, streamlined strip of uniform light.
LINCOR Direct/Indirect pendant luminaires illuminate the office spaces and mock court suites. With its slim and unobtrusive design, the LINCOR LED luminaire draws an elegant line through the room, its contemporary minimalism enhances room axes
and architectural concepts. Efficient LED technology takes full effect in a section of only 63 mm square, resulting in high- quality
indirect/direct lighting. MELLOW LIGHT V has also
been installed in office areas providing perfectly dispersed LED points that deliver well-balanced illumination of the work space, helping to prevent glare and the so-called ‘cave effect’. The result is an eye-catching, contemporary installation with engaging spaces that work in unison with the new, refreshed facility.
