Advertorial WHAT’S NEW SPONSORED BY Airflow helps Heathcott Road achieve passive house certification

eathcott Road, a social housing project in Leicester, has been granted full Passive House status. Comprised of 68 new

dwellings, all benefitting from a Mechanical Ventilation with Heat Recovery (MVHR) unit, including the DV96 Adroit, the site is the largest housing scheme of its type in Europe to receive the status. Heathcott Road is a 13.2 acre affordable housing scheme. The former derelict allotment was sold by Leicester City Council for a nominal fee of £1 to emh homes, on the basis that the housebuilder and appointed property developer, Westleigh, provide affordable living to the area. To achieve Passive House certification and

meet airtightness criteria, each dwelling could not exceed 0.6 m3/hr/m2 air changes per hour at 50 Pascals pressure (ACH50). In fact, many of the dwellings were air tight to an exceptional infiltration level of just 0.2 m3/hr/m2 air changes per hour at 50 Pascals pressure (ACH50). As such, the DV96 Adroit units were specified to prevent the build‐up of indoor air pollutants that can be harmful to human health and the building fabric. For more information on Airflow

aunched earlier this year, Scolmore Group’s Deco Plus is an extensive range of wiring accessories that is designed to bring even greater choice and

flexibility at the premium end of the electrical accessories industry. Comprising more than 800 decorative metal wiring accessory products, Deco Plus introduces smooth, contemporary curves that will have wide‐ranging appeal with contractors, specifiers and end users alike. Matthew Scott, procurement manager with Imtech Engineering Services, one of the largest independent technical service providers in the UK and Ireland, working on large scale projects across a range of sectors, has welcomed the introduction of the new Deco Plus range, which he says gives him more options to deliver to clients. “We have a long association with Scolmore and are familiar with the quality and breadth of their products. Deco Plus compliments the existing wiring accessory portfolio really well. We love the curved edges and the range still offers modularity – which is a key consideration for us – and there is also a great range of finishes to choose from.” Offering exceptional quality and unprecedented

value, the range is available in seven finishes and the switch plates are all modular as standard, allowing the creation of virtually any switch plate design required. For further information, contact Scolmore on 01827 63454, or visit:

installed at Wren Kitchens 1,000,000 sq. ft. manufacturing facility in Barton‐upon‐Humber, North Lincolnshire, by local mechanical engineering company, NTI Yorkshire.

The design and build of the new boiler house comes as part of a £80m expansion plan that began last year, bringing the number of local people working at Wren to 2,000. Part of the manufacturing line

requires constant hot water to be fed through process pipework to heater batteries that humidify the air to spray paint various kitchen components such as doors, drawers and furniture. These machines are built in‐situ due to their vast size, meaning space was at a premium for any supporting infrastructure on the production floor. NTI Yorkshire was brought in to design and manage the installation of the mechanical services due to managing director

Neville Tucker’s long‐standing relationship with the company. Darren Finley, Chief

Commercial Officer at Ideal Commercial, added: “This project is a shining example of collaboration between three local companies of the Humberside area. It is also proof that one of the key reasons Ideal Commercial has a well‐established reputation as a leading British manufacturer is due to the longstanding partnerships we have with customers and our experience in delivering solutions that work for their circumstances.” For more information on Ideal Commercial’s Imax Xtra EL, visit:

last in the UK for CIAT, who visited eight cities across the length and breadth of the country. But that’s just a portion of the company’s mammoth pan‐continental technology tour ‐ CIAT is taking a nine‐month, 25,000‐mile trip across Europe and North Africa, including stops in Morocco, Turkey and Russia, to connect with customers and highlight their newest product developments and comprehensive system offerings. At Twickenham, CIAT and sister

company Toshiba Air Conditioning shared the prestigious stadium platform for the launch of Toshiba’s latest 3‐pipe heat recovery VRF system, SHRM‐e. This was followed by a briefing on upcoming Toshiba product developments. Among those officiating the launch and welcoming visitors were Ross Shuster, president of International Operations for UTC Climate, Controls & Security, and David Dunn, director and general manager of CIAT and Toshiba Air Conditioning, as well as many senior colleagues.

uDavid Dunn reports on delegate feedback on refrigerant options.

Dunn said: “Twickenham

provided a fitting culmination to CIAT’s UK grand tour 2017, and a not‐to‐be‐missed opportunity to roll‐out Toshiba’s latest and greatest VRF system to key customers, consultants and end users.” “This inspirational and iconic

venue reflects our own values as a company, in terms of approach, professionalism, respect and commitment. It was a fitting location to introduce the most recent innovative products from both companies and share our future product plans with customers.” The day concluded with a gala dinner in the Members’ Lounge with guests entertained by a panel of superstars from the world of rugby, including former England captain Will Carling, Scottish rugby legend Gavin Hastings, Welsh stars Scott Quinnell and Jamie Roberts, and Irish national player Gordon D’Arcy.

Hamworthy launches new CIBSE‐accredited CPD seminar

H

amworthy Heating is expanding its offer of CIBSE‐accredited

Continuing Professional Development (CPD) seminars. Aimed primarily at consultants and building services engineers, the new course covers the topic of new boilers on old heating systems with a focus on hydraulic separation. Attendees can learn about

different approaches to connect new boilers to the secondary circuit, the old heating system. Methods such as installing a low loss header, a plate heat exchanger or using a no flow boiler and buffer vessel are explored including the pros and cons for each. Stuart Turner, National Sales

Manager at Hamworthy Heating, commented: “We’ve listened to our customers and the challenges they face in refurbishment projects on a daily basis which is why we decided to launch this

new CPD seminar. We’re confident the takeaways from it will assist our customers in selecting the best matched heating system, even for trickier installations.”

What are the benefits? Attendees can improve their knowledge of hydraulic design to overcome the most common challenges in plant room refurbishment projects. CPD points gained contribute to CIBSE members’ required annual CPD hours. For more information about or

to book this CPD seminar send an email to enquiries@hamworthy‐ heating.com, call 01202 662500, or visit:
