uceco has recently lit facilities at Horizon Place for East Midlands Ambulance Service NHS Trust (EMAS). EMAS provides emergency medical services, urgent care, and patient transport services for 4.8
million people, covering Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire Leicestershire, Rutland, Lincolnshire and Northamptonshire. Phase 1 of the project included the relighting of the Incoming Call Centre, a very busy environment operating 24 /7 and a pivotal element of the services provided by EMAS. The open plan space required eight zones which could be separately controlled providing various levels of illumination to assist with the activities of the call centre and to help promote wellbeing in a setting dealing with emergency situations. Recessed LuxPanel Extra luminaires were used throughout the installation controlled by Luceco’s wireless lighting control system – Platform. Platform is an innovative controls solution making the planning, configuration, and commissioning of wireless lighting
controls accessible to many applications from large open plan commercial environments and warehouse spaces to conference rooms, corridors, and smaller office layouts. Existing and new installations can be transformed into a flexible wireless controlled infrastructure. Platform sensors were used to provide occupancy and daylight dimming facilities with Platform switches pre-set with scenes for different lux levels depending on the time of day and staff shift arrangements. Simple operation of the system provides various lighting control
options including, dimming, scene setting, presence and daylight control, all helping to reduce energy consumption and operating costs, whilst creating a comfortable lit environment. Consultancy services were provided by at Pick Everard based in Nottingham and the electrical installation was carried out by Brook & Mayo Ltd. Luceco Project Manager, Leigh Davey said “With many

ritain’s leading independent air movement specialist Gilberts (Blackpool) is demonstrating by example how manufacturers can make better use of their buildings to improve their carbon footprint
and optimise operating costs. The company has just completed installation of its latest phase
of onsite solar using its factory roofs to accommodate solar arrays. The latest addition will deliver a further 110kWp of home-generated electricity. It supplements photovoltaic panels already installed on site over the past decade and brings Gilberts’ total capacity up to 170kWp which equates to an annual electrical generation of almost 155,000kw. In addition a further two phases delivering an extra 139kWp are already in hand for completion this year. This will bring total onsite generation by solar to 294kWp The solar arrays represent just part of Gilberts’ continuing investment
in environmental and carbon reduction measures. The company has upgraded the site’s factory roofs to 100mm composite, improving daylight, improving insulation and reducing heat
loss. Fluorescent lighting across its 130,000 sq ft facility has been removed and replaced with LED with occupancy sensors. Heating is controlled by smart technology. Compressors and motors are now inverter controlled and machines fitted with load sensors, which automatically switch the equipment off when not used for a period of time. Gilberts is also exploring the possibility of using any electricity it
generates surplus to operational needs to run nitrogen generation equipment, thereby reducing- or eliminating- its need to buy in liquid nitrogen to run its laser technology, with all the associated transportation environmental impact and embodied carbon. Explained Jonathan Haslam, Gilberts Managing Director, “The solar
electricity we generate is already reducing our energy bills. As an example, a number of our production machines can operate throughout the summer working entirely from our solar panels; one building alone generates almost 30% of its annual electricity usage now- a figure which will be further improved as we continue the expansion programme. “Obviously the driver behind this is to minimise our environmental

R company Tillymint Communications scooped a cluster of wins at the Chartered Institute of Public Relations (CIPR) PRide Awards – including one
which highlighted the benefits and achievements of the Automatic Door Suppliers Association (ADSA).
Tillymint Communications won: •
Best Independent PR Practitioner of the Year (gold award)
Best Low Budget Campaign (silver) Best Publication (silver).
Winners were announced during a ‘screening party’ hosted by CIPR Midlands at Millennium Point, Birmingham last week (13 October) which broadcasted the announcements from London. It saw PR and communication professionals
from across the region come together to celebrate the achievements of the past year. The event was sponsored by Next Level Recruitment and Pitch Consultants. ADSA’s Conversation Campaign picked up silver for
the Low Budget award. It is an integrated campaign highlighted member benefits delivered through display advertising, social media content, events and marketing collateral. Aimed to get members and industry professionals
talking about the issues that matter, a hashtag device #bepartoftheconversation was used across all channels. Output included an animated graphic, which to date, has received more than 40,500 views.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xDTV_K8K4AY Ultimately, the campaign underpinned a wider communication strategy for ADSA as the leading voice of the industry, representing its members interests by establishing and maintain standards, increasing competence levels and boosting membership opportunities. As a consequence. ADSA membership grew by more than 25 per cent during the first phase of the campaign. Said Tillymint founder Alison Gallagher-Hughes: “It is such an honour to be recognised by fellow professionals
within the communications industry which neatly coincides with our anniversary. It is just two years ago this month that Tillymint was established and it’s great to look back at how far we have come and what we have achieved for our clients.” ADSA MD Ken Price added: “We have the honour of being Tillymint’s first-ever client. We have worked with the company over the past two years are delighted at what Alison and the team bring to our organisation. They
impact through our own carbon footprint and in turn supporting our customers’ embodied carbon and TM65 rating. It does also help us to continue to deliver best value for our customers by mitigating our reliance on bought-in energy and therefore helping protect against rising costs. In light of the increase in energy costs- our bought in electricity is predicted to increase five fold-, the PV panels are a great, timely investment and could pay for themselves in as little as 18 months.” The investment in solar is part of Gilberts’ continuing commitment to investment in technology to deliver cost-effective, quality components; the company has already in recent months bought state-of-the-art laser cutting and punch equipment, manufacturing programming software and powder coating line.

organisations looking to become more environmentally friendly and reduce their energy and operating costs, lighting controls can help save around 60 - 70% on energy consumption and ensure spaces are lit appropriately to provide safety, security and comfort using scene setting, presence detection and daylight dimming controls. Platform offers high value return-of-investment on new or existing lighting installations as well as extending the life of the luminaires due to reduced operating hours.” EMAS provides emergency 999 care and telephone clinical assessment services, receiving a new 999 call every 40 seconds! In its last inspection, EMAS was rated good and outstanding throughout. Now the facilities at Horizon Place enjoys the energy saving efficiencies of LED lighting, a more pleasing lit environment, and a substantial return on their investment through use of modern lighting technology coupled with cost effective lighting controls.
