DALI-2: the foundation of smarter, more sustainable buildings

The shift from DALI to DALI-2


A major transformation in the industry has been the transition from the original DALI – the lighting control standard for commercial buildings, offices, schools, hospitals and increasingly in smart buildings – to DALI-2, which offers clearer standardisation, improved testing and enhanced device interoperability. DALI-2 provides consistency and confidence. It ensures sensors, switches, and control gear work together, regardless of manufacturer. That reliability wasn’t guaranteed with early DALI. zencontrol has played a key role in this shift by offering one of the industry’s most complete ranges of DALI-2 certified devices,


including application controllers and advanced monitoring tools.


Sustainability and energy cost savings


DALI-2 systems enable businesses to significantly reduce energy consumption through features such as occupancy-based control, daylight harvesting, scheduled dimming, and real-time performance monitoring.


Lighting is one of the largest energy loads in commercial buildings. With a properly designed DALI-2 system, organisations can cut lighting energy use by up to 50–70%, while also extending luminaire lifespan and reducing maintenance costs.
