New solutions for architectural office lighting

ighting specialist ETAP Lighting International is launching a new lighting solution as part of its modular LEY range. Its new luminaires can be fully recessed into ceilings, which


offers architects virtually endless possibilities. The range is now also available with a microprism optic. "We now have the perfect solution for offices, showrooms, meeting rooms and corridors. It gives designers great freedom and offers maximum visual comfort to office workers and visitors," Product Manager Jérome Keller says. ETAP launched the LEY range in 2019. The range’s development


has focused on perfectly finished luminaires that combine effortlessly to form sleek light lines. The different combinations offered by LEY luminaires can create light lines that follow the architecture perfectly to accentuate the building’s design. At first, the range only offered modular pendant, surface­mounted and wall­mounted luminaires with a shielded lens or diffuser optic. ETAP is now complementing those with the launch of a new product line with LEY modules that can be fully recessed into the ceiling and can have a microprism optic as well. The microprism optic combines a clear, diffuse effect and a low level of glare (UGR ≤ 19), which makes it ideally suited to office environments. Thanks to the small dimensions (60 mm wide) and continuous diffuser optic (up to 50 m without any boundaries), these new modular luminaires can be used to create clean, recessed light lines on the ceiling. Like the rest of the LEY range, the luminaires can have a grey, black or white finish.


Architects demand aesthetic lighting solutions ­ Jérome Keller: "We know that architects and interior designers are looking for more aesthetically pleasing lighting solutions to enrich their architectural or interior design concepts. Our pendant, surface­mounted and wall­mounted luminaires already met this need. The new range now also offers recessed luminaires with the same technical functionality and finish. The new microprism diffuser optic also offers more visual comfort." ETAP's application areas include offices, conference rooms, entrance halls, showrooms, open spaces and so on. "The creative possibilities are endless. Clients can easily and quickly configure our solutions online to completely tailor them to their needs. And we make sure all the possible documents and data are available," Jérome Keller adds. "ETAP guarantees high­quality, high­performance and perfectly finished lighting solutions."


Developed with an eye for circularity ­ The LEY range has been developed with an eye for circularity and is manufactured entirely in Malle, Belgium. More than 85% of the aluminium ETAP uses has been recycled. Furthermore, all our components are assembled with screws, so that the fittings can be easily maintained and dismantled.

ieland Electric's established gesis® FLEX series is expanded with the new KNX DALI Gateway. It allows direct communication between the two interoperable and well­known systems, KNX and DALI 2. As a result, it communicates with devices from other manufacturers that


continuously measure the concentration of airborne particulates. If the concentration exceeds a pre­set level, the system activates purification mode, switching on a high­efficiency filtration system. In purification mode, the system continuously recycles and filters the air until air quality achieves the


desired level. The cleaning process uses a filter with 11 times the surface area of conventional filter media and normally takes from a few minutes to half­an­hour, depending on the volume of the space treated and level of contaminants. Epure Dynamics is a major advance on conventional air conditioning that does not always address


the problem of particulates, particularly below the size range <2.5µm, which are considered to be most harmful to human health. Once activated, Epure Dynamics rapidly reduces the concentration of airborne particles, achieving the World Health Organisation (WHO) recommendation for annual load of 10µm/cu m within 20 minutes, and a 90% reduction in PM2.5 particles within 60 minutes. Some air handling systems draw particulates into a building from outside, which can be a problem in urban areas with emissions from traffic, and areas with airborne industrial pollutants. While closed­ circuit air conditioning systems do not suffer from this problem, they continually recirculate airborne particulates already within a building, and repeatedly expose occupants to new particulates that are constantly being created. Use of a fine F7 filter on a building’s main fresh air intake will stop around 70% of particulates with a


diameter < 2.5 µm. However, airborne particles generated inside a building cannot be processed by the air handling unit in this way, and therefore build up within it, posing a potential health risk for occupants. Epure Dynamics overcomes these issues with a highly­effective and dedicated purification unit equipped with advanced high­efficiency filters. When triggered by its network of sensors, these quickly remove particles from contaminated air throughout the building. The unit tackles particles drawn in from outside as well as those created within the building.

Dravo deliver HVAC system for leading UK retail giant


leading UK Retail giant’s distribution centre, located in Milton Keynes is a state of the


art facility and is one of the UK’s largest, covering a 45 acres site – the size of 12 football pitches. The 940,000 sq ft building needed a suitable energy efficient HVAC system to match and Dravo were able to provide the ideal solution to meet the clients specific heating requirements for the low bay area and cooling for the temperature controlled zones, which was to contain racking for pharmaceutical products, by supplying 8 x AHU’s; GH indirect gas fired appliances complete with modulating low NOx burners and high velocity ductwork distribution system. Combined heating and ventilation solutions have been on the market for many years. The technology has been developed to the point that they now offer optimum energy efficiency while improving air quality.


These systems rely on a degree of fresh air intake to operate. Dravo’s range of indirect gas­fired units,


for example, provide both fresh and warm air in the building. Indirect fired units work on a patented air recirculation system which supplies the amount of fresh air required to meet the changing requirements of the building, while maintaining a constant supply of fresh air into the burner. Since fresh air is delivered faster than it can escape by natural ventilation, these units slightly


pressurise the air inside the building. Pressurisation causes the air to distribute evenly throughout, eliminating temperature stratification or ‘cold spots’ and ensuring every part of the building is usable at all times. Once optimum conditions have been reached, the system modulates the fresh air input and utilises up to 90% recirculated air for maximum economy. When temperatures within the building change, a combined heating and ventilation system can


respond very quickly, soon returning the interior to comfort conditions. Heat recovery is fast becoming the norm for such ventilation systems, reducing both running costs and harmful CO2 emissions into the atmosphere.
