PIPES, VALVES & FITTINGS Training proves critical for evolving industry
T
Ged Grimes, UK & Ireland business unit director at Conex Bänninger discusses some of the latest industry developments and why training has never been more important to help keep installers and engineers up-to-date with the pace of change
here’s no doubt that our industry continues to evolve at a rapid rate. Not only are there ongoing legislative changes that the sector as a whole has to get to grips with, but there’s also the technological advancements being made in newer and more efficient solutions that are coming to market. This is being driven largely by the UK Government’s net zero 2050 carbon emission targets, but also by manufacturers and installers looking to future proof their businesses in a progressive industry. There’s also the general desire from people both in their homes and businesses to utilise more sustainable technologies and practices. A recent example changes being made include the use of particular F-gases, which are being phased down by the UK Government. Latest legislation affected the use of HFC 134a with a GWP of more than 150 as a refrigerant, specifically targeting commercial applications in establishments such as supermarkets and gyms. The changes in legislation towards the use of F-Gases with higher GWPs are intended to sharply decrease the effect they have on our global climate from a carbon emissions perspective. They’re also intended to help minimise energy consumption as a whole and lower associated costs surrounding the many applications they’re used in.
The good news is that, as an industry, we are well versed with playing our part in helping to tackle climate change. Manufacturers have been evolving their product offerings and introducing more innovative,
energy efficient technologies for decades. It’s the same with installers who have, for many years, been quick to accept, adapt and offer newer technologies that not only benefit their customers, but also play their part in helping the environment. Conex Bänninger’s >B< MaxiPro
press fit solution for example is approved for lower GWP HFO and hydrocarbon refrigerants such as R1234yf and R290, which are likely to be some of the successors to the refrigerants used today. But the benefits of don’t end
there. This press fit solution also offers installers a host of advantages.
Specifically designed to manage the demands of air conditioning and refrigeration applications, it provides a mechanically strong and resilient press-fit system that is not only quick and simple to use, saving engineers valuable time and money, but provides a secure, permanent and leak-free joint. Available in sizes 1/4” to 1-3/8”, the system significantly reduces installation time and costs. The flame-free press-fit solution also has significant health and safety benefits, eliminating the requirement of hot work permits and risk of fire, whilst removing the need for nitrogen purging. Utilising Conex Bänninger’s
three-point-press technology, pressing on either side of the high quality HNBR O-ring, the solution ensures a permanent leak-tight joint every time.
Its designed and engineered to withstand the higher operating pressures, up to 48 bar, that AC and refrigeration systems require, and is suitable for continuous operating at temperatures between -40oC and +121oC. Furthermore, the simplicity of the three-point press joint means once basic preparation is done, it takes just 5 seconds to complete a joint, thus delivering an economic benefit through greater productivity and lowering overall cost. Training is a critical area that many installers and engineers utilise to keep abreast of the latest industry developments and product advancements, enhance their own professional development and give themselves a competitive advantage. Not only do certified training courses help increase knowledge and skills, but by undertaking relevant courses provided by industry bodies and manufacturers, it can help increase confidence and
