he Electrical Industries Charity has partnered with architect Dhiran Vagdia of Vagdia and Holmes for Challenge for a Cause – the Big Build Project. The project aims to raise £250,000 to purchase a house which will transform daily life for Caz Dickinson and her family. This is the first partnership of its kind and a very important milestone in giving Caz – a former electrical industry employee who suffered a life-changing illness – greater independence.

Dhiran Vagdia, director of Vagdia and Holmes said: “Caz’s situation is obviously very rare and it’s great that EIC are in a position to help her and her family, thanks to the kind donations they receive. We can’t wait to get involved and get started!”

Once the house has been purchased, Dhiran and his team will work with Caz and her family to discuss the design brief. The focus will then be on obtaining planning permission and designing and testing various solutions to see what best suits the needs of the family.

Claire Shelton, programme manager of the Big Build Project said: “We decided to go into partnership with

The agreement will see ALPS deal with all Colt louvre projects in England and Wales, although Colt will carry out the largest projects itself. Colt has also appointed Anthony Domment as its new technical consultant. Based in the South West, he will be focusing on louvre, natural ventilation and solar shading.

“We are very excited by the appointment of Anthony and the new agreement with ALPS,” said Colt’s business development director, David Fitzpatrick. “This will enable us to develop a stronger support system for our clients – from initial design, right through to installation, commissioning and service.”

ore than 150 members of Elmhurst Energy, the energy performance

assessment specialist, attended its 25th Anniversary Conference in Leicester as the industry responds to the Government’s call for evidence on Energy Performance Certificates (EPCs).

Members listened to and engaged with experts from Elmhurst Energy and the wider industry, to explain the context of the ‘Call For Evidence’ and draw attention to the challenges that exist with climate change and fuel poverty - and the opportunities that energy certificates present. Members were encouraged to give their opinions, which have been considered and, where possible, included in Elmhurst's formal response.

“Government acknowledges that EPCs are already ‘a key tool in promoting energy

performance improvements in buildings’. Now they are looking to use EPCs to deliver on the aims of the Clean Growth Strategy by identifying new trigger points for when an EPC will be required,” explains Martyn Reed, Managing Director for Elmhurst Energy. “The comprehensive response from Elmhurst Energy is the latest in a number of consultations released by government and is a fantastic opportunity for our industry, confirming the positive role that energy assessors fulfil in improving the energy efficiency of the buildings in which we live and work.”

The Conference was also an opportunity for members to join a celebration of 25 years of Elmhurst Energy, which now has over 7,000 members across the UK. A Conference was also held in Livingston, in late November 2018, in order to engage with members and the government in Scotland.

The K7 (2020-2025) framework will move to a design and build arrangement for all major capital schemes and see NM Group initially working alongside Balfour Beatty and Interserve as they complete a small number of legacy projects by March 2020.

It is an exciting opportunity for NM Group and builds on its long-term relationship with SWW. The scope includes the provision of civil engineering works, building works and incidental mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, controls and automation works in connection with the

construction, extension, refurbishment, alteration and/or demolition of the low groundwater and sewerage infrastructure within the SWW catchment area. SWW’s engineering delivery alliance, H5O, is also joined by Nomenca Limited, a subsidiary of NM Group, which along with Kier, Northavon and Tecker is responsible for the design and construction of all MEICA aspects of the capital programme and support operations on a reactive basis. Managing director for Nomenca, Andy Langman, commented: “This is a fantastic opportunity for the Group and our South West business. It not only builds on our recent MEICA Framework award but provides a strong platform for future growth and long-term sustainability in the South West region.”
