Adversing: 01622 699116 Editorial: 01622 687031 It’s the most wonderful time of the year! H

aving recently taken over as editor of BSEE, it gives me great pleasure to

welcome you to this December issue. I’ve worked at Datateam Business Media, the publisher of BSEE, for over 12 years, and held various editorial positions, including editor, managing editor, and latterly editorial director, across a wide portfolio of publications. So I’m very familiar with the title and always find it an extremely interesting and informative read.

As she leaves the editor’s chair to enjoy a well-earned retirement, I want to thank my predecessor, Debbie Eales for all the hard work she put in on the magazine over the last few years. Debbie is a very experienced journalist and a well- known and much respected figure

in the industry. She will be missed and also a hard act to follow. I’m very grateful for the opportunity to edit the magazine and work with the extremely knowledgeable, dedicated and professional BSEE team. I’m also looking forward to learning more about the building services and environmental engineering sectors and to covering the issues they face, the many technological advances being made, and the high tech solutions available in more detail.

With the UK moving towards an uncertain political and economic future, like many others, the building services industry is likely to face some challenges. Stepping out of alignment with the EU may eventually result in changes to standards, regulations and

legislation relating to buildings and construction that will need to be carefully considered and managed. There is unlikely to be any immediate effect when we officially leave the EU next March, so the actual impact may not be felt for some years to come, but it’s certainly something we should be mindful of and need to plan for in the future.

The environment and sustainability are also key topics affecting the industry that are likely to be brought into even sharper focus in the next few years. These issues will also

provide opportunities for creative solutions and I’m excited to be able to bring you news of them first in the pages of BSEE.

Thank you for your support, please enjoy this issue and I wish you a very Merry Christmas and a happy, healthy and prosperous New Year!
