Building reliability into outdoor sensors O
TT Hydromet has launched a suite of high quality weather monitoring sensors that are ideal for the construction and building
“Our latest Lufft sensors, the WS Series, deliver professional- grade weather data with instruments that are extremely compact, rugged and reliable,” says OTT managing director Nigel Grimsley. “In the past, customers would have had to purchase multiple sensors to monitor outdoor conditions effectively, but this can now be achieved with substantially less costly devices; many of which would fit in the palm of your hand.”
Weather monitors are routinely employed at construction sites to check that conditions are suitable for work such as pouring concrete or crane operation, but with facility managers looking for more sustainable solutions, Grimsley says the big market is now building management. OTT Hydromet is a specialist manufacturer of smart weather instruments for environmental monitoring and building automation purposes. With no moving parts, OTT’s comprehensive range of compact, low-energy multiparameter sensors offer long-term reliability for almost any weather parameter with easy integration into building control and HVAC systems.
The WS range offers customers the ability to select from a range of parameters including temperature, relative humidity, air pressure, wind velocity / direction, precipitation amount / intensity / type, UV index, sun direction, brightness and twilight, and global radiation.
The OTT Hydromet Group manufactures products that enable water professionals to monitor the planet's most
precious resource. Through the delivery of accurate reliable data, OTT's instruments and services provide essential tools to help protect the environment.
From precipitation through surface and ground water to marine monitoring applications, OTT's measurement and communication technologies provide a complete picture of the water cycle. OTT and Hydrolab have been longstanding members of the OTT Hydromet Group. Adcon Telemetry was acquired in 2011; Sutron and Lufft joined the group in 2015, and Kipp & Zonen joined in 2017, which means that the company is able to offer the best sensors and data handling technology for every application.
Completely focused on hydro-meteorology and water quality, OTT products have been market leaders for over 140 years and coupled with modern communications technology provide remote access to continuous monitoring data. Further information is also available at

JIB Recommends BPMA Training for Pump Installation and Maintenance Fitters
he British Pump Manufacturer’s Association (BPMA) is delighted to have two of its E-Learning Training Courses endorsed by the Joint Industry Board for Plumbing Mechanical Engineering Services in England and Wales.
T
JIB-PMES is an independent and neutral ‘not for profit’ organisation, which partners the CSCS Registration Scheme, a regulator and a service provider for employers and employees within the building industry. Participation in the activities and benefit schemes of the JIB for Plumbing Mechanical Engineering Services is open to:
• Members of the Association of Plumbing and Heating Contractors (APHC).
• Members of the Unite the Union (Unite). • Members of National Federation of Builders (NFB) who employ operative plumbers and/or apprentice plumbers. • Employers of operative plumbers and/or apprentice plumbers, who are
not in membership with the APHC or the NFB.
• Operative plumbers in the employ of Public and Local Authorities.
• Operative plumbers not in membership of Unite but employed by participants of the JIB for PMES.
As a CSCS scheme partner, JIB-PEMS provides Health & Safety Registration SmartCards (or Blue Cards as they are more commonly known) to operatives employed in plumbing and mechanical engineering services and related sectors. There are a wide range of disciplines and occupations covered by the scheme, but for those whose work includes the installation, servicing and maintenance of pumps, the registration classification for the appropriate Blue Card is ‘Pump Installation & Maintenance Fitter’.
However, as there is no recognised National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) or Vocational Qualification (VQ) which specifically covers this job role, the qualification requirements for this
occupation covers a range of third-party training courses.
The two BPMA courses recommended for completion are:
• Introduction to Pumping Technology course (20 hours)
• Essentials of Pumping Technology course (90 hours)
Commenting on the recommendation, Gary Wilde, technical services manager at the BPMA said, “It is very pleasing for us to have two of our training courses endorsed by such a respected organisation, and to know that those installing or maintaining pumps with the building environment are being directed our way for their skills development.” He added, “We look forward to training many more pump installation and maintenance fitters within the construction industry over the coming years.”
