EDITOR’S COMMENT & CONTENTS Bugs, Builds and a Brighter future

his month the hottest topic must be said to be Coronavirus and its seeming constant steady spread across the globe. The impact this has had on industry events and the economy in the host countries of those events could send shockwaves across our industry and will certainly have some effect in the future. However, this has also raised social awareness of air in public places, fanned by a film- style media reaction causing surge in sale of (pointless except for on the cover of a newspaper) face masks.

T

While attending Futurebuild 2020, I was heartened by the number of people there and the fact that only a handful of them

were wearing those face-masks. The event was a brilliant success both for showcasing talent and inspiring its visitors as well as proving that Coronavirus does not have to put an end to such events.

The bright side to this kind of challenge, when multiple countries are affected, is that it can be the spark needed to inspire a new way of thinking that will improve the health of humankind in the future: New technology and behavioural changes needed to help the environment which is 100% in the headlights right now. It is my greatest pleasure to introduce our new Environment Update/ Aware feature page. This will be a poster-board for brilliant

ideas and a soap box for wise words or new ideas. BSEE wants to reflect and support the industry’s passion for the environment and the need we as a society now have to adapt our behaviours and attitudes to how we treat the environment and how our created environments treat us. I’d also like to offer a warm welcome to the new president of BCIA, Terry Sharp. I have greatly enjoyed reading his predecessor Jon Belfield’s wise words and look forward to learning more from the BCIA in future.
