COMBAT LAUNCH RANGE OF ELITE PRO UNIT HEATERS

C

ombat Heating Solutions, Europe’s leading developer and manufacturer of energy efficient

warm air heating and radiant systems, are delighted to introduce you to their range of Elite Pro Unit Heaters, Models EPU 30-115kW, one of the most effective energy reduction technologies available on the market. At Combat we are committed

to designing, developing, and delivering innovative energy efficient and effective products and system solutions, which is why our range of unit heaters has received a make-over and are available in several sizes. Our new Elite Pro range of warm air

unit heaters now offer even greater energy efficiency combined with quiet operation. The new range are easy to install, maintain and operate with a wide range of options. Suitable for either room sealed or open flued installation, the heaters also have lockout indicator lights help to make troubleshooting easier. The new range now benefits from fully modulating burners for greater efficiency and stainless heat exchangers as standard for long life. In addition, the heaters can be suspended or shelf mounted, freeing up valuable workspace and providing flexibility with several air handling options, such as axial, centrifugal fan or ducted applications. Additional benefits include;

Swegon takes its first step towards using fossil-free steel

T

his week, Swegon presented its first product made from

carbon dioxide-reduced steel – a GOLD RX – at the ISH trade fair in Frankfurt. The manufacture of steel consumes large amounts of both resources and energy. As ventilation units are primarily made of steel, there is considerable potential to reduce the carbon footprint of embodied carbon in production, by replacing traditional steel with steel that has a lower climate footprint. In January, the first delivery of XCarb® RRP (recycled and renewably produced) Magnelis from the steel manufacturer ArcelorMittal was received at Swegon’s Kvänum factory, where the company manufactures ventilation units. According to ArcelorMittal, XCarb® RRP Magnelis has an approximately 70% lower CO2 footprint than traditionally manufactured steel. XCarb® RRP is mainly produced from recycled steel and uses 100% renewable energy in the manufacturing process. The first concept air handling unit has now been produced, and the plan is to gradually introduce carbon dioxide-reduced steel into ongoing production, starting during the second quarter of this year. “We are delighted to now be phasing in carbon dioxide-reduced steel in our large ventilation units.

We all have to contribute and reduce our climate footprint, and this transition is enabling us to reduce not only our own, but also our customers’ footprint,” says Robert Siverby, Supply Chain Director at Swegon Group. Swegon has, for a long time, focused on sustainability and on reducing the climate footprint in the production as well as the use phase of its products. Swegon was among the first in the industry to develop EPDs (Environmental Product Declaration) for its products, and has a significant amount of EPDs in its portfolio. Based on the existing EPD for GOLD RX, size 12, the total Global Warming Potential (GWP) is expected

to be reduced by approximately 20% with the transition to XCarb® RRP Magnelis steel, given that all the steel is replaced.

Reshaping Health Services to Address Ill Health

he Clydebank Health and Care Centre was designed to change how care is delivered to the local community, combating the area’s history of ill health. Thorn and its sister brand Zumtobel, both lighting brands of the Zumtobel Group, worked with Wallace Whittle to design a lighting scheme

to achieve the desired aspirations. Ewan Arthur, Key Account Manager - Specification at Zumtobel Group, comments, “The atrium

is the star of the lighting scheme. Unlike the Greenock Health Centre, where we had the striking ONDARIA luminaires, the architect looked to provide a different aesthetic and wanted square fittings to complement the space. To address this, we designed a square SLOTLIGHT infinity arrangement to provide adequate illumination and ensure it was easy to clean with minimal maintenance.” Ensuring clinicians have the right light to perform diagnostic work in the consultation and treatment rooms,

the Thorn IQ Wave provides a clear and low glare (UGR<19) light with excellent colour rendering (CRI >80). Its IP44 rating allows easy wiping down of the luminaire to aid infection control throughout the space. Thorn’s Voyager star helps the building meet the latest European standard EN 1838. Furthermore,

the plant rooms have been installed with Thorn’s Aquaforce Pro IP66 moisture and dust-resistant luminaires, which offer efficiency as high as 141lm/W. Zumtobel’s LITENET lighting control system offers numerous advantages in terms of efficiency, cost

and environmental impact, so light is only used when required. Martin Lorimer, Associate, Wallace Whittle commented, “It was important to Wallace Whittle when completing the designs for both health and care centres (Clydebank and Greenock) that we established and maintained a high quality, efficient lighting and lighting control design to ensure the client aspirations, and our own, became a reality in a highly robust and efficient installation. The support of Thorn and Zumtobel to the contractor team of BAM Construction, Arctech Scotland and the design team from concept to completion was fantastic.” The project was shortlisted for a 2022 Scottish Design Award and AJ Architecture Awards.
