MONITRAN HIGHLIGHTS THEIR OWN-DESIGN CONDITION MONITORING SYSTEM AT MAINTENANCE BILBAO

company's stand at Maintenance Bilbao this June. The MTN/5032 can monitor velocity, envelope g and temperature across all channels. The versatile microcontroller based

A

system has an easy-to-navigate touch screen that enables users to set thresholds and delays for alarms individually or across all channels, as well as data sampling periods, ranges and accuracy levels. The channels are configured to customer specifications and offer 12 bit sampling,

with an input range of 25 mm/s for velocity and 10 g for envelope gas standard. Temperature channels, which can be used to monitor bearings or gearbox oil for example, can monitor up to 100°C. Also, on the stand will be the newly developed MTN/VM330D portable vibration meter

with its bright easy-to-read display. Maintenance Bilbao takes place on 4-6 June 2019 in Bilbao, Spain. Monitran will be in

COMPACT TEROS 11 SOIL MOISTURE AND TEMPERATURE SENSOR IS ACCURATE, RELIABLE AND EASY TO USE

Decagon Devices), is introducing the METER TEROS 11 soil moisture and temperature sensor that benefits from a one-litre volume of influence, which is a substantial improvement over the 200 ml typical of most sensors. This remarkable performance is achieved despite the sensor measuring just 94mm long instead of the 200+ mm of alternatives. METER Group has more than 20 years’ experience of soil moisture instrumentation and, based on its experience and the TEROS 11’s superior design, the manufacturer expects the new sensor to operate for up to ten years. Features that contribute to the TEROS 11’s longevity include stainless steel needles

that can be easily inserted into any soil and are resistant to salts, and epoxy- encapsulated electronics that withstand extremes of temperature and moisture.

NEW DAQ MODULE WITH CAN FD FOR INCREASED BANDWIDTH REQUIREMENTS

T

est and measurement expert HBM has expanded its range of data

acquisition modules by launching the new MX471C module with CAN FD (CAN with flexible data-rate) protocol. The module is part of the industry standard’s QuantumX family, providing engineers with universal and flexible solutions for integrating data acquisition systems into CANbus networks. CAN FD solves the bandwidth

limitation problem of classical CAN networks by allowing bit-rates higher than 1 Mbit/s. In addition, it supports payloads in CAN FD messages up to 64 bytes. Many automotive companies make use of this increased bandwidth at low cost which is especially required in today’s electric vehicles. The MX471 CAN FD module allows the synchronous integration of up to four CAN

networks and can be expanded as required. The module, combined with a data recorder and analog measurement modules, is ideal for mobile vehicle tests and as a measurement gateway in test benches.

SENSATA’S SLIM 22.5MM HYBRID MOTOR STARTERS EXTEND MOTOR LIFE AND SAVE SPACE

E

xpanding on its extensive product line for motion control

applications, Sensata Technologies has launched the Crydom DRMS Series hybrid motor starters. These new hybrid starters

integrate the benefits of both solid state and electromechanical relay technologies to produce a compact device that can control electrical power delivery to motors as large as 4kW. Suitable applications range from access control, packaging equipment, lifts and escalators to industrial process control and machine tooling systems. Unlike many motor starters of similar size, the DRMS Series offers features such as

soft start, soft stop and an internal mains disconnect relay in case of a fault. The starter’s soft start/soft stop function allows for the gradual increase or decrease of power control, thereby extending motor life.

CLIENT SOLUTION LEADS TO GAS METER TEST RIG FOR EVERYONE W

hen a client approached Chell Instruments with a specific challenge, our engineering team got straight to work. Using our industry leading expertise and experience, the ideal solution was

developed for their gas meter calibration requirements. Now, a version of the Gas Meter Test Rig (GMTR) we created is available from Chell for everyone

wishing to test and calibrate domestic gas meters, including manufacturers and calibration houses. The GMTR is a multi-channel bench-top system that allows testing of the functionality, accuracy,

stability and leak integrity of up to four domestic gas meters simultaneously. It is compatible with older ‘diaphragm’ type positive displacement meters, as well as the newer ‘smart’ ultrasonic meters. As you’d expect, the device contains high accuracy flow, pressure and temperature

instrumentation and can generate any flow set-point up to 12,000 litres per hour, maintaining a low outlet pressure to prevent damage to the gas meters under test. For valid accuracy comparisons, the combined mass flow, pressure and temperature measurements can be used to calculate the true volumetric flow rate at each point of concern. The system consists of a custom enclosure and a triple range flow manifold with pneumatically

operated isolation valves. Featuring a captive vent, it can also be used for testing on flammable gases. Pipework and custom gas meter outlet blocks allow volumetric flow conversion for up to 4 gas meters in series. The system has a 0.4%Rdg +0.2%FS mass flow accuracy. It utilises 4 pressure transducers and 4

PRT temperature probes, connected to custom fixtures in the interconnecting pipework. The on- board display modules provide mass flow control and display, pressure and temperature measurement display and valve control. Remote monitoring and control is also possible via the built-in webserver or via customer’s own software.
