elcome to the September issue of Electrical Engineering magazine. In the last few issues of Electrical Engineering, I’ve been quite critical of the Government and, principally, the hapless Prime Minister Boris Johnson.
Now that Liz Truss has taken on the role, after Boris fell on his sword, time will tell if the digital skills
gap that seems to widen by the day will finally be resolved. As technology advances, we need to be able to recruit fresh talent and I believe that the Government
has a role, dare I say, a significant role to play in this. The industry is in a good position, yet there are many challenges afoot and I very much enjoyed meeting
Graeme Rees, president of the Building Controls Industry Association, who spoke in-depth about he is looking to boost engagement within the BCIA membership. And, at the ECA, I understand that it will soon launch a major sector survey to better understand how it
can improve and further support businesses across the electrotechnical and wider engineering services sector. Once it is live, the survey should take no more than 10 minutes to complete. By taking part, people will
be helping to future-proof the industry and ensure that you and your business are served with the best possible resources, tools and support in the years ahead. ECA said that this research is designed to let people have their say about the challenges they face and
