Briggs & Stratton partners with Arrow Valley Automation E
ngine and power solutions specialist Briggs & Stratton has partnered with
Arrow Valley Automation (AVA) to help with the electrification of industrial automation systems and vehicle automation solutions. Working closely together, AVA will support
end users to design new systems from either the ground up or by integrating Briggs & Stratton’s Vanguard lithium-ion battery solutions into their existing designs. Utilising Vanguard’s lithium-ion batteries, AVA
will be able to extend its support of prototype and commission control system manufacturing to a wider range of equipment solutions. This will enable its customers to adopt electrified

powertrain solutions that offer a complete solution for end user control systems. Rob Weale, an electrical engineer at AVA, said:
“As technologies continue to evolve quickly, the demands from our customers are changing as they look to keep their products up to date. Partnering with Briggs & Stratton and its Vanguard battery range will enable us to combine our unique
experience in both industrial and vehicle automation alongside the latest battery technology to best support our customers. “We are excited to work with Briggs &
Stratton and look forward to integrating their batteries into our customers’ designs.” Paul Bramhall, director –
electrification/rental EMEA at Briggs & Stratton, added: “We are pleased to partner with AVA, who are experts in providing integration services for electrified powertrain solutions. “Combining AVA’s integration services with our
portfolio of commercial grade lithium-ion battery solutions enable their customers to realise their electrification goals faster and more efficiently.”

ergus, the software designed to save electricians hours of time on admin, has
Fergus was founded in 2014 by veteran tradesman Dan Pollard, when he set out to solve the admin problems that had plagued his business for years. Since that time, the company has transformed
the way trade businesses in New Zealand and Australia operate and has become recognised as a global leader in software for tradespeople. James Chillman, UK country manager, said:
“Made for the trade, we exist to make your lives better, freeing up time you would otherwise have to spend on business admin. “Fergus will literally save you hundreds of

iglon said its £50,000 donation is set to support the wide-ranging work of the
electrical industry’s charity. The company became the first-ever corporate
partner of the Electrical Industries Charity last June – and now, 12 months on, has handed over what is hoped will be the first of many donations. Paul Dawson, Niglon’s commercial director,
said working alongside the charity has opened his eyes to the breadth of services offered to current and former electrical workers – and their families. As part of the partnership, Niglon has
donated 10% of the profits plus VAT from every single sale of its Median wiring accessories range during the last year. Mr Dawson said: “I’ve been in the industry
for more than 30 years, so have an awareness of some of the struggles facing workers and former workers – whether that’s around their health, wellbeing, or career. “While we were able to continue operating as
near to normal as restrictions would allow at Niglon throughout the pandemic, we know all of the team faced their own personal worries and challenges, and we know many across the industry faced a raft of additional problems. “It was seeing this unfold which led me to
think what I could do as an individual, and what Niglon as a company, could do to give back to the industry.”

hours a year in wasted admin time.” Currently serving over
18,000 tradespeople in eight countries, Fergus’s mission is to provide electrical contracting businesses with access to software tools to organise their business without burying them in admin.
Mr Chillman said the Fergus app ensures
healthy finances and that you get paid quickly; all aspects of a job that need to be done to get paid are in the workflow and, as the only system tracking labour and materials back to the job in real time, Fergus ensures each job is profitable. He continued: “Despite the digital revolution of
the past 30 years, most tradespeople – over 75% in most markets according to our internal market research – are still using manual, often paper- based systems and processes to manage their business. This ultimately leads to poor cash flow, lower profits and significant stress on the business owner. “The trades have effectively been left behind
and ignored by the software industry, predominantly because the average size of trades businesses was considered too small to matter. Fergus is designed specifically for the trade and has all the user friendliness built in you would expect for those company owners looking to spend less time on admin and more time doing the things they enjoy.”
Ansell Lighting and Bradford College join forces to support electricians of the future
A
nsell Lighting has joined forces with Bradford College to support the building of a house for
electrical installation students to practice on. The house, or Active Learning Area, has been
built in the atrium of the leading West Yorkshire college and worked on by City & Guilds Level 1 and 2 students from a range of building services
and construction courses, including electrical installation, plumbing, bricklaying and joinery. Ansell has sponsored the project, which has
been named the Ansell Lighting Academy, and provided Prism Pro CCT Fire Rated Downlights for use in the kitchen and bathroom areas, as well as floodlighting, a mini floodbox and exterior wall lights. Electrical students will be wiring the lighting
and power while the plumbing students will be piping the services and radiators. The house has also been ‘futureproofed’ so it can be re-used each year for new students to get active practice. Adam Brough, team leader in electrical
installation, plumbing and gas at Bradford College, said: “Having a real building to practice on is invaluable for our students – instead of their practical work being restricted to boards.”
