ello and welcome to the December/January issue of Electrical Engineering magazine, the first issue to be published in 2021. Despite the latest UK lockdown, the industry is pushing forward and facing challenges head on. Partnerships and collaborations have been strengthened over

the last 12 months, as companies adapt and work together to keep everything going. Brexit is now again rearing its uncertain head and creating chaos for supply chains and future predictions. It’s not all doom and gloom though and there’s lots to shout about coming from the coalface of our

industry. We’ve got features fit to burst with new information from the latest in Lighting & Controls to what’s new with Smart Buildings & IoT. With less people in office spaces, and more dynamic working patterns, Ledvance advises implementing a smart lighting system to minimise wasted energy, a point also argued by Colin Lawson of Tamlite, who recommends new investment in lighting controls. Also showcased in this feature is NET LED, a company that explains how low power multi-fuction LED testers from Seaward has improved the electrical safety testing of its products. Rob Moore from EMS makes the case that IoT can make manufacturing much smarter, and Matthew Margetts from Smarter Technologies offers his opinion on which connected technology will transform 2021. We look extensively at workwear and protective clothing against Arc Flash and other common safety

issues in the workspace whilst identifying the greatest Products of the Year from 2020, and also examine the newest Test & Measurement equipment. Electric Vehicle technology seems to be ever- improving, especially when it comes to the lifetime and efficacy of batteries, and Lotus Engineering offer information about Project BattCon, a pilot project that introduces containerised battery test facilities, designed to help meet increasing demand for new UK-based battery testing to support EV supply chain and OEMs. If you would like to write for the magazine on any given topic within the industry then please don't
