elta has announced that its DPH 500kVA modular uninterruptible power supplies (UPS) and InfraSuite Manager

data centre information management (DCIM) system are now in operation at Bytesnet’s new d’Root data centre at Zernike Campus Groningen in the Netherlands. The DPH 500kVA UPS delivers fully rated power (kVA=kW) and is

claimed to require only 50 per cent of the space needed by similar systems. With Delta’s DCIM, Bytesnet can collect energy consumption data from power meters and environmental detectors in real time to monitor data centre operations remotely. Bytesnet is a regional colocation and network services provider

with two main data centre locations in Rotterdam and Groningen. At the heart of the d’Root data centre is a six-megawatt power system. The three phase modular DPH 500kVA Delta UPS that Bytesnet has chosen for its new data centre was one of the keys to minimising the facility’s environmental footprint. This Delta UPS also offers AC-AC efficiency of 96.5 per cent, resulting in considerably lower energy consumption, CO2 emissions, and costs for Bytesnet. Bytesnet selected Delta to supply not only its UPS system, but also

its comprehensive InfraSuite Manager DCIM system. The DCIM system gives Bytesnet full control over all aspects of operating d’Root. It also allows for additional optimisation and efficiency gains.

A

rise in the number of cable failure reports has prompted the Approved

Cables Initiative (ACI) to question cable fitness for purpose. Instances reported relate to where cable

is compliant with relevant standards, yet not fit for the intended purpose. ACI is advising that before making cable choices it would be wise to speak with manufacturers to ensure the appropriate standard is chosen, and therefore the suitable cable, to ensure the delivery of a safe and functional solution. Dr Jeremy Hodge, ACI director, said: “Just because a product is compliant with a standard it doesn’t mean it is necessarily fit for the purpose intended. In most instances the issue lies with the fact these cables were not properly specified in the first place.” He said that it is the manufacturer who is

best placed to ensure a cable meets a particular specification, but it is the responsibility of the designer/ installer to ensure this is correct for their application.

NATIONAL GRID OPERATOR ANNOUNCES ZERO CARBON BY 2025 N

ational Grid Electricity System Operator (ESO) has announced it will be able to fully operate Great Britain’s electricity system with zero carbon by 2025.

Fintan Slye, director of ESO, said: “By 2025, ESO will have transformed the operation of Great Britain’s electricity

system and put in place the innovative systems, products and services to ensure that the network is ready to handle 100 per cent zero carbon.” He said that ESO will identify the systems, services and products needed to run a zero-carbon network and design

the new competitive marketplaces needed to source these as efficiently as possible. “Operating a zero-carbon electricity system in 2025 is a major stepping stone to full decarbonisation of the entire electricity system; enabling new technologies and removing barriers to ever increasing levels of renewables”, he said.
