Smiths Interconnect launches the next generation of its power connectors for railway applications

NEW CATALOGUE FROM MARSHALL-TUFFLEX

M

arshall-Tufflex, the UK’s leading manufacturer and supplier of cable management solutions, is delighted

to announce the launch of its latest catalogue – featuring the company’s full collection of cable management solutions. The new catalogue also demonstrates the strides the company has taken to champion products that are manufactured from recycled material. Since the publication of the last catalogue, Marshall-Tufflex has made the decision to talk about their commitment to using recycled PVC-U in their manufacturing processes. Based on figures from 1st January – 31st December 2018, Marshall- Tufflex’s PVC-U products are manufactured from an average of 80% recycled plastic, with some white extruded products produced from 100% recycled material. Thanks to its rigorous quality control system, the company can now inform end-users of the percentage of recycled material used in each and every one of its products via the index in the new catalogue. The new catalogue is available online and on-request from Marshall-Tufflex’s customer service team. For more information, please visit: www.marshall-tufflex.com/catalogue

and radio frequency products, announced the release of the next generation modular Transformer Connector Range – Heavy Power Series, for on-board power applications within the rail market. The key innovation of the next generation of the Transformer Heavy Power Series is Smiths Interconnect’s innovative Tortac® technology, which draws on the exceptional characteristics of the Hypertac hyperboloid contact on equal pin diameter to feature smaller pitches, higher contact density and higher current ratings. “Smiths Interconnect has designed a rugged, reliable and high-performance modular solution for railway applications, but also for hybrid and electric vehicles and various other industries.” said Paul Harris, VP Sales and Marketing. “The use of our distinctive Tortac® technology further enhances the connector’s performance and pushes the boundaries of innovation in design and manufacture of interconnect solutions to deliver a competitive edge to our customers.”

Two additional 32mm circular knockouts, positioned at the top and bottom, in line with the main switch, have also been provided to accept the mains tail cable glands. Lid earth connected directly to an additional way provided on the earth bar ensures ease of installation. To allow for the fitting of mains tail clamp, fixing holes have been provided in the DIN rail at the main switch position. The accessories will now also include two cable grommets, one of each size 40mmx25mm and 50mmx50mm.

UNITRUNK IGNITES CABLE MANAGEMENT SECTOR WITH FIRE SAFETY TEST FIRST

to pass fire safety testing for both its cable tray and cable ladder, providing peace of mind for specifiers, developers and end users. The move pre-empts any mandatory requirement to certify cable management systems for fire safety and has seen Unitrunk proactively choose to undertake fire testing in response to general concerns about the safety of all elements of construction specifications. Independent third party tests have been carried out on Unitrunk’s pre-galvanised UniKlip cable tray from the RIS range, involving both heavy duty UniKlip and medium duty UniKlip, which achieved a fire rating of E90, indicating that the system can withstand temperatures rising to 1000°C for at least 90 minutes. The company’s EasyConnect basket tray is already E90 certified for fire resistance.

Other Unitrunk cable management systems that passed the stringent fire testing process include hot-dip galvanised cable tray and Speedway SW4 medium duty cable ladder in both stainless steel and hot-dip galvanised. Unitrunk’s commercial manager, Martin Gregg comments: “Our decision to invest in fire safety testing for UniKlip, hot-dip galvanised cable tray and Speedway SW4 cable ladder system stems from a belief that this should be integral to quality assurance processes for all cable management systems, regardless of whether compliance to a standard is required. “The whole construction supply chain needs to take responsibility for designing fire safety into their products. Gaining certification ahead of any mandatory obligation helps

specifiers include fire safety as a product selection criterion.” To pass the fire tests, all the cable management systems had to withstand a temperature curve as high as 1000°C whilst the cables in the system maintained circuit integrity. The cable management was then fire rated based on the number of minutes they were successfully able to withstand these conditions. Martin adds: “Our goal is to offer customers complete peace of mind that they are specifying a cable management system that will enhance the fire safety of their completed

construction or refurbishment project. As a UK manufacturer, we can offer total quality assurance and consistency for all our systems and fire certification adds to that pedigree.” Unitrunk
