PR account executive at Down At The Social

How did you find out about the scheme? Once I finished my A Levels, I didn’t want to take the typical route of going to university. I started searching online to find apprenticeship options and I found an opportunity on Indeed with Social Chain, the first integrated social media company to combine social media and social commerce. The opportunity with Social Chain led me to Down At The Social, a PR agency based in Manchester, where I now spend four days a week.

What was the application process like? The application process included a trial day and a short interview. I was very nervous for this as it was my first big interview since leaving school.

What was your first day like? I enjoyed my first day, despite being quite nervous. I was introduced to the team and the clients I would be working with. For my first task I had to compile a list of influencers that we could invite to a PR event we will be hosting. Since then I have done lots of similar tasks, which I now feel confident about undertaking.

Any standout moments?

The standout moment so far is when I had to eat 20 dishes for an eating challenge we filmed for a client campaign. We are always coming up with new ideas for PR stunts and I really enjoyed being part of this process.

What does your day to day entail? My day to day includes searching for and sending coverage to clients, finding influencers to collaborate with and selling into different publications.

What does the future hold? I am excited for the future. I hope to learn lots of new skills so I can progress in this fast-paced industry.

Any regrets? None. I wanted to gain a real insight into how the marketing industry works by learning relevant skills from real-life experience. I enjoy learning from my colleagues at work who are helping me to develop my knowledge of PR.
