Carving out a career in the performing arts may be easier than you think, says the Federation of Drama Schools

aking your career in the performing arts might seem like an almost-impossible dream, but that’s definitely not the

case. The UK makes world-class, vibrant and inspiring live performance events, is home to some of the biggest filmmakers in the business, and its creative industries have global impact. All of this activity means there are hugely diverse career opportunities in the performing arts – and beyond. These

include writing, casting, directing, producing, designing, stage managing, acting and publicising, to name just a few… If you want to turn your talent and ideas

into some serious skills and experience and take your next steps with confidence, getting the right training is a good first move. In these schools you can expect hands-on learning, high levels of contact time and a focus on professional standards and practices to make you as ready as you can be to turn that dream into a reality. Most FDS schools offer higher education courses that are, at least in part, funded through student loans, and there are many bursaries and schemes to help meet any costs that aren’t fully covered by the loan. Some schools work with schemes such as the Dance and Drama Awards (DaDA) to support eligible students with funded tuition and can even

offer subsistence grants on top, which can help with rent and living expenses. Some schools that are DaDA-funded and accredited by the Council for Dance,
