Christmas Inspirations In partnership with LoveMedia

Christmas cocktails Perfect pairings for an

alcohol-free Christmas

Whether you’re alcohol-free all year round or just want to try some new options to lighten the load this December, here are our top picks for the festive season. Staying sober has never tasted so good

T

The alcohol-free world has exploded in recent years. Whether you’re looking to avoid the strong stuff or concentrate on healthier options then there’s more than an

elderflower cordial on offer this season. But interestingly, whether for health reasons or not, these drinks often sport myriad health benefits. From apple cider vinegar options to fermented water kefirs, these blends are fizzing with ingredients that will leave you feeling invigorated. And without a hangover in sight. These are grown-up, strong and impressive options. No one will feel like they’re missing out at whatever party you’re throwing.

Mother Root

Taking age-old methods of aperitif wine making and making them work for alcohol- free options is no easy task but Mother Root founder Bethan decided to throw her years of experience behind her when she was pregnant and avoiding alcohol. The result? A drink that really hits the mark. The apple cider vinegar drink, known as a switchel, is powerful and complex enough to replace the acidity, length and depth of flavour that you’ll find in good wine. This modern mixology is forward- thinking and full of flavour. The Ginger Switchel zings with ginger and apple cider vinegar. It packs a punch and will be a hit at your Christmas celebration.

How to have it: Try the Ginger Switchel mixed with soda, a slice of lemon and a sprig of rosemary in a highball glass. Try it with: Saucisson, manchego or aioli.

Botivo

This non-alcoholic aperitivo is distinctly different from other options and has become a cult favourite in restaurants and bars. The five key botanicals are blended in small batches in a farm in Hertfordshire in a process that takes over a year to perfect and the bright, bursting citrus and herbal flavours are testament to the hard work. It’s bitter, aromatic and unforgettable.

How to have it: Pour over ice and top with soda water. Serve with a squeeze of orange. Try it with: Charcuterie and soft cheeses.
