In this exclusive interview with Mixmag, we gain insights into Dana’s future goals, musical exploration, and aspirations for collaborations and personal achievements.

Dana Montana, a rising star in the electronic music industry, is making an explosive impact with their distinct style and infectious energy. Hailing from the city of Zaporizhya, Ukraine, Dana Montana’s musical odyssey commenced with a modest encounter with electronic music. While their early years were filled with a limited exposure to the genre, it was during their early twenties that a transformative discovery reshaped their path. Immersing themselves in the enchanting realms of Vaporwave and Future Funk, Dana’s late introduction to these genres bestowed upon their distinct advantage – an untainted and invigo rating viewpoint, unburdened by the prevailing trends of their peers.

“Growing up in Zaporizhya I wasn’t exposed to electronic music that much. I heard some hits from the late 90s and 00s on the radio, but that’s all. My

mother and grandmother were music teachers, so they were brought up with classical music. I mostly listened to just Pop music from Ukraine of that time or some Beatles, grandpa was a big fan of them. I only discovered electronic music in my early 20s, starting with things like Vaporwave, Future Funk and after going to my first raves I started investigating House and Techno. Because of discovering those genres at a rather late age,

I

feel it kept my view on it very innocent and fresh, uninfluenced

by any awareness of trends.”

Dana’s uniqueness extends beyond their musical selections. With meticulous attention to detail, they

“I use colors and cuteness as a form of rebellion. In a scene where we mostly see black clothing and emphasis on hard and dark sounds, projecting happy vibes and colorful aesthetics is a movement against

the system in a way. I took a lot of

inspiration from the club kids, drag queens and cartoon characters. To me being a DJ always offered a wider

creative platform, than just

DJing only. I am in charge of choosing the way I look on stage, how me and my music are visually presented on the internet. I really enjoy the fact that besides musical creativity, I can also engage in creating an aesthetic narrative and of course, dancing!”
