leaving Grace, his widow, trying to come to terms with her loss and trying to make sense of her life as a clergy wife. Was it all about making endless cups of tea and quiches? Grace's sister, Ruth, has come back from Africa to offer syrnpathy and Grace's daughter, jo, is visiting to offer her support Sarah, the new priest-in-charge has also arrived to look over the house and garden that is shortly to be hers. Grace is reluctant to leave her home as she still feels Bard/s presence very strongly. Her experience as a clergy wife does not prepare her for the two

revelations in the play. The first, that her sirter, a missionary who according to Jo, "doesn't do sex" has a son, Jeremy, and the second that the father of the child is her beloved "Bardy". In a series of flashbacks Grace
remembers challenging Bardy about his religion, his faith and its relevance to evetyday issues. She also remembers how throughout

Enter Sarah who encourages
Grace to talk of her feelings, of the loss of her child and of the actual circumstances of Bard/s death. This has a cathartic effect upon Grace and relationships are healed. This play has many levels and
swings from the comic to the tragic. The part of Grace was expertly played by Ann Lang ably supported by Sue Cronshaw playing Ruth the missionary sister with typical craftsmanship. Rebecca Parkinson played the daughter Jo with sensitivity and Vikki Mason played the part of the female vicar with good comic timing. The much loved and much mourned Bardy was played to great acclaim by David Proctor. Directed by Robin Simmons, this
was a highly entertaining play that left the audience with much to think about CLAIRE DAVIES

TO raise awareness of the wealth of skilled chefs in the county, Lancashire and Blackpool Tourist Board has an initiative to promote young chefs to work
■ alongside rural producers. At the tourist board's second event, which took
place at The Three Fishes, Mitton, it showcased Blackburn-born chef Andy McCarthy, who compiled a menu alongside award-winning Lancashire cheese producer Butlers of Inglewhite. Diners enjoyed a locally sourced, three-course
dinner for £20 and heard from the guest producer Chris Burton, Butlers Foodservice and Wholesale Account Manager, who had contributed to a special Taste Lancashire menu who was also able to discuss specific cheeses for those diners who selected the cheeseboard.
The most ordered dish on the night was the twice
baked Butler's Tasty Lancashire Cheese souffle, herb salsa, cheese sauce.
Of the feedback forms completed by customers
on the night, the cheese souffle, hot-pot and lemon tart were voted equal favourites. It was 2001 when a 14-year-old Andy McCarthy
Joined the crew at Lancashire's Michelin star restaurant Northcote, as a kitchen porter. He then went on to train at Blackburn College, before being accepted on the Northcote apprenticeship scheme in 2005. This successful scheme has already launched the careers of several young chefs who, like Andy, now head chef of The Three Fishes at ’
Just 25-years-old, are well on their way to the top of their profession.
Chef/patron of Northcote and managing director
of Ribble Valley Inns, Nigel Haworth said: "The Taste Lancashire Produce evening is a great event to showcase the outstanding local produce that we have on our doorstep. To work with the likes ol
Butlers enables Andy and myself to create quality local dishes."
