JBIO.OOO project to repair and pre-: serve the church’s landmark spire. The second stage of the project to
dismantle and rebuild the spire com pletely began in the spring. “By next Friday, June 29th, all
the stones will have been taken down and the spire will be at its low est point,’’ explained Rev. Proud.. “These are
being.stored at the rear of the church on a massive plat form. “Each level has been dismantled
separately and put down on the pallets, and when you look at them It’s plain to see the reason for the work.” Rev. Proud explained how the
iron cramps between some of the stones have rusted, resulting in cracks to much of the stonework. “All these stones laid out really
demonstrate the reason why we are having to carry out the work and the enormous scale of the job. .
