Read cooking on gas as th ^ chase leaders!
C R IC K E T By Dan Black
READ GC’s anriuar team BBQ wasn’t tHe' only thing; cooking at the weekend; The club’s event provided
the perfect base for celebra-- tion forthe senior squad, led
; by. skipper Kyle P ’Cbnnor,, after-their fieiy performance reduced Edenfield” to cinders at Gincroft Lane. The 48-run victory ensured
the heat is still on at-the summit, though . the , gap remains at 17 points after' Bamoldswick maintained their unbeaten run in 2012 with an eight-wicket triumph over Salesbuty. Read began the clash rather hesitantly and plummeted to
■40-4. Joe Marshall was in blazing
form, smashing a quick ^fire 26, but on his exit the prolific pairing of Jon Harvey (52) and Andrew Laycock confidently rebuilt the innings as the visi tors finished on 180.
“Jon and Andy batted really
well,” said Kyle. “We didn’t bat as well as we
have been doing, despite set-, ting off like a house on fire,
■but we did enough. “The pair rebuilt the iimings
for us after we struggled at the start.” In the' reverse, Marshall
stepped to the fore as he dep.- utised for the absent Warren Eastham with the ball. Marshall formed part of
a destructive three-pronged . bowling attack alongside Harvey, who claimed two vic tims, and Elliot Lowes f3-171. “Joe Marshall was the pick
of the bowlers,”-beamed the 'Whalley Road skipper. “He didn’t bowl badly once
in 11 overs. “He’s only bowled in
Twenty20 competitions before but we needed a slow bowler with the absence of Warren so he stepped in and took his chance. “He’s been working hard

In a totally one-sided

respect for Earby batting with a Mongoose bat designed specifically for Twenty20

however, were ■ unable to resist a strong Cherry Tree performance in the field. Opposition
bowler
Andreas Sudnik took 7-30 to give his side a comfortable target of 55, which Cherry Tree reached with six wickets- to spare. ••Salesbury lost out by
eight wickets to leaders Bamoldswick, having been dismissed for 108, with
• professional Imran Khalid taking 5-39. ^
Bamoldswick eased home
in reply with Umar Saddique unbeaten on 53. This weekend, Clitheroc
are at home to Baxenden on Saturday; while Ribblesdalc Wanderers are at Edenfield, Read, host Settle, and Salesbuiy are at home to 'Whalley in a derby clash. Read are also in the
Twenty20 semi-finals and finals day at Great Harwood onSunday. They face the hosts in
the second semi at 2-15 p.m., with Oswaldtwistle Immanuel or Settle lying in wait in thfe final. The final-is scheduled to
start at 5-30 p.m. • THE Clitheroe and

way. after easily seeing off St James ■
in the first midweek
game played at Whallcy for several weeks. . St James made 64-6 with Pete Oliver making 29 though Connor Lowes led Calderstones to a five-wicket ■victory with a knock of 25. Low Moor are hot on their
heels after beating Chipping Ramblers at Roefield. Ramblers were extin

CLITHEROE Cobras Under 9s cricketer Henry Rumboll, has taken his first official hat- trick of wickets as a bowler. Unfortunately he had to

Graham.Fielding has jiist returned from-a five-day Mountain Bike Orienteering event in Fontainebleau, France, where he was part of the British Mountain Bike Orien teering squad. Graham found the navigation to be much more difficult in
Fontainebleau, with its extensive forest and a natural arena of single track trails, compared with mountain bike orienteering in Britain. After gaining experience from training and racing with the elite
riders in Britain, Graham has gainfed confidence for the upcoming World Masters Championships in Hungary. . The trip was successful with Edwyn Oliver-Evans wiiming the
