Fostering challenges explained

by Faiza Afeaal

CLITHEROE residents are invited to find out more about the difference they could make to vulnerable youngsters living in care at an open day today. Foster Gare Associates (FCA) North West

is hosting an open day today (July 19th), at the FCA Clitheroe office, Peggy Hills Farm, Hcnthome Road, Clitheroe, BB7 3BY, from 10 a.m. until to 4 p.m.

Staff will be on hand for an informal

chat about the challenges and rewards of a career in fostering.

“Foster carers provide a safe and stable

family home for young people, giving them a chance to thrive,” said FCA North West

registered manager Colette Abbiss. “FCA_ is looking to recruit more

compassionate, resilient and hard-working foster carers that place the need of children first, and have the transferable skills to care for troubled youngsters. “FCA enisiires carers are well equipped

with the skills they need for the fostering task, by providing 24 hour support, ongoing training and support from a team of professionals, FCA and the carers it works closely with, are able to provide vulnerable, young people with the best possible care.’V

• I f you think you have the patience,

commitment and enthusiasm to foster a child or young person in Clitheroe, have a spare bedroom and a willingness to learn, come along the FCA open day, or contact FCA direct on 0800 023 4561, or visit: www. iwanttofoster.com

Their relationship began as a secret from

colleagues, but quickly took flight into a whirlwind romance, and they went public.

Three years later, Shaun sought the

blessing of his soon-to-be parent-in-laws before conspiring with Jane Atkinson, NWAS community resuscitation development officer, to plan how he could incorporate his proposal into the day;

Bride-to-be Katie said; “For a couple

brought to g eth er through a shared community spirit, there could be no more perfect, nor shocking, proposal.

“Our lives have been full of love, laughter

and friendship and our relationship has grown stronger every day.

“A special thank you from lis both to Jane

Atkinson — and also to the field trainers present for their ongoing love and support.”

THE Local Government Ombudsman - the body responsible for investigating conmlaints about councils - has given Rib- ble Valley Borough Council a clean bill of health in its annual review.

In her Annual Review Letter to the

council’s Chief Executive Marshal Scott, ombudsman Anne Seex writes: “I am pleased to say that I have no concerns about your authority’s response times and there are no issues arising from the.com-

plaints that I want to bring to your atten tion.” The statistics included with the letter

and covering the year ending on March 31st 2012 show that there were just six complaints to the ombudsman about Rib- ble Valley Borough Council, five of them relating to planning and development mat-.

of health ^eas6u eotnes*T . * 5

ters and one relating to housing. In two cases there was not enough evi

dence of fault to proceed with an investi gation and in the remaining four cases the investigative team found there was no, or very minor, injustice. There were also no concerns with the length of time taken by the council to respond to complaints. Ombudsman Anne Seex commented:

“Our annual reviews provide all councils with statistics about the complaints we have dealt with during the year. “If there are any significant issues aris

ing from particular complaints we men tion them in the annual review. We hope the Infomation contributes to public ac countability and raising awareness of the

importance o f taking citizens’ complaints seriously.”
