If I’m honest, though, I find myself missing the ultimate feel that would have been delivered by the previous car. For the majority of owners, I think the ride quality will more than compensate. The cabin doesn’t feel quite as spacious as a Golfs or Vauxhall Astra’s in the back, but there’s still enough space for four adults to get properly comfortable, while the boot is usefully square- shaped and intrusion-free though, at 277 litres, not quite as capacious as its predecessor’s. If that’s a prob lem, 39 litres of space can be grabbed back by opting for the space-saver instead of the full size spare wheel and, of course, folding the split rear seat backrests gives up to 1101 litres of luggage space for those occasions when your lifestyle needs rearranging and you wish you had an estate. For Focus buyers who always knew that they did, the estate’s load bay offers 476 litres of volume up to the parcel shelf and, with the rear seats folded, this increases 1502 litres - enough for the proverbial kitchen sink. It is said that, at one point, more
than 1,500 Ford engineers were working on the new Focus, and it shows. If we needed reminding just how good the Focus still is - this third generation model does just that.
