Bracewell heifer takes top prize


BARGH Bros, of Bracewell, took the Championship at the May Dugdale Nutrition Dairy Show at Gisburn Auction Mart.

calved and giving 30kgs and sold to Messrs. Southwell, of Luddenden Foot, Halifax. Reserve champion went to


Sam Tennant, of Thornton, with a beautiful in-calf heifer due to sexed semen for the


end of May. She sold to Tom Shuttleworth, of Rylstone, for £1,980. In-calf heifers from J. Maw-


son sold to £1.650 and from M. Makinson to £1,520. Hol­ stein Freisian heifers calves made to £390 and a very smart Ayrshire calf made to £410 to P. K. Smith, of Southfield. Forty-one head were on

AUCTIONEER Jonathan Turner, of Richard Turner and Son, noted an increased number of new season lambs on sale at Gisburn on June 2nd, with a trade to match con­ sidering a falling trade in other markets around the North West.


With 320 lambs forward, the


trade averaged out at £95 per head (244p/kg). Topping the market was A. Phillipson, of Briercliffe, with some smashing
