A YOUNG girl who lost her: mum to breast cancer, is em­ barking on a fund-raising chal­


lenge to raise £5,000. ^ Nine-year-qld Bethany Rose,


whose^mother'Katy Rose died of the disease on April 1st aged jusU 38, will undertake a five kilometre sponsored walk on Mother’s Day. “I miss my mummy more than


anything in the world and I’d like to raise this money for Breast Cancer Care so it can help someone else’s family and mummy,” the Brookside Primaiy School pupil explained. Bethany’s fund-raising challenge

A GRATEFUL landlord is thanking the firefighters who came to the rescue of his family and customers during a devastating fire. In September 2009, the historic


Swan and Royal Hotel, in Castle Street, Clitheroe was destroyed in a fierce blaze. The fire tore through the 18th cen­


tury hotel, wrecking the roof and the interior just before midnight. Around 170 guests, who were en­


joying a 30th birthday party, managed to flee the flames unharmed, but four people had a very narrow escape as they were trapped in the second floor living quarters and had to be rescued by fire crews and taken to hospital. Forty firefighters spent hours bring­


ing the blaze under control. Mr Tez Joy, whose parents Carol


and Terry own the hotel, was among the four people trapped in the liv­ ing quarters. His fiancee and parents were also rescued. They were rushed to Royal Blackburn Hospital suffer­ ing from smoke inhalation and severe shock. A special dinner has now been or­


ganised by Terry Joy as a thank you to all the firefighters and people that helped in the rescue mission. Speaking to the Clitheroe Advertis­
