A THREE-CAR smash closed the A59 near Gisburn at the same location as an
other accident exactly a fortnight earlier. The accident happened on Monday, at ap-;
. proximately 5-30 p.m., next to the entrance to Gisburn Business Park, just on the Clitheroe side of Gisburn.

tate, a red Toyota Corolla Verso and a black Ford Mondeo. .The driver of the Toyota is believed to be a Clitheroe man who was driv ing home from workjwhen the accident hap pened.

- The occupants of the other cars - two in
the Volkswagen and one in the Ford - were shaken but not seriously injured, with only the female passenger in the Volkswagen taken to hospital by ambulance for a check-up.: The Volkswagen suffered a rear-end impact which smashed its window and mangled two
,. mountain bikes on a rear cycle carrier, while the Ford sustained heavy front end damage. All three vehicles were travelling towards
Clitheroe when the accident happened. The injured driver was flown away at 6-15 p.m. and police had the road open again shortly after 6- 30 p.m., once recovery vehicles had removed the damaged cars.: :: During the road closure, traffic was di
verted along minor roads through Bolton-by- Bowland and Rimington. • The A59 was closed by a crash at the
same location exactly a fortnight earlier, on Bank Holiday Monday. It involved a bus and a Toyota Corolla and was attended by both the North West and Yorkshire air ambulances. They flew the occupants of the Toyota - an
elderly couple from Bury - to hospital, where their injuries turned out to be relatively mi nor. Neither the driver nor passengers on the bus were injured.

A 62-'YEAR-OLD man remains in a stable condition in hospital after, be ing injured while crossing a Glitheroe road. .
- ■ . Mr David Raw, from Grindleton, was
crossing the road near the junction of Wellgate with Lowergate when he was in collision with a yellow Ford Fiesta. ■ ' He was airlifted to Royal Preston Hos-. pital having sustained serious injuries. ■ '
AFTERMATH: accident investigators examine the car involved in the accident
The accident happened just after 3
: p.m. on Friday. The police, ambulance : and North West Air Ambulance were all called in. The air ambulance’s pilot managed to put down in a very confined area on the
■ mini-roundabout at the junction of Pen- ; die Road with Waterloo Road as police stopped traffic in all directions.
: Mr Raw’s son, Chris, who had rushed to the scene of the accident, confirmed that his father was “unconscious, but breath-: ing”. A spokesman at the hospital later •
confirmed that Mr Raw was in a stable ; condition. The male driver of the Ford Fi esta was unhurt.
: Police investigations are continuing into the accident. Sgt Pete Sculplier, of the Road Policing Unit in Accrington,
• said: “An investigation into this collision is nov/ under way and I would appeal to anyone who may have witnessed it to con tact police.” Anyone with information is asked to call
