TWO vital facilities for Ribble Valley parents are looking for additional premises after being victims of their own success. Ribblesdale Children’s Centre

has been successfully working in partnership with Home-Start Pendle and Ribble Valley for the past 12 months to help support local families vvith children under the age of five. However, the need for the serv

ices offered by the two organisa tions has outgrown the centre’s current premises on Queen Street, Clitheroe, meaning the hunt is now on for additional space. I t is hoped this extra space will

allow for the extension of the wide variety of groups and sup port services currently offered at the centre. And, ideally, the aim is for par-

ents/carers to attend Skills for Life sessions, which would enable them to gain a qualification in lit eracy and numeracy. Since the scheme first began,

Home-Start has trained 19 volun teers and supported 29 families, including more than 70 children, in the Ribble Valley. All the vol unteers are themselves parents who provide help, friendship, advice and support to families th a t are experiencing a wide range of difficulties. These volim- teers spend at least two hours a

Together they gave

their audience a satiri cal look at the fortimes that their respective Parties might face a t the forthcoming Gener al Election. They were also joined on stage by

Katie Green, former Wonderbra model and friend of Mr Opik. Speaking afte r the

event, Mr Evans said: “I t was great fun to be involved in the Parlia mentary Palace of

week visiting the families in their own home to provide them with some much-needed support. Home-Start also hosts a family

. group, currently once a month, which provides children with fun activities and also enables fami lies to access further help and support from Home-Start staff: It is hoped these sessions can he held fortnightly to enhance the sup port available to families in the area. In order to provide such addi

tional services, the two organisa tions, which became partners in September 2008, are now looking for suitable local premises to rent

on a shared basis. “These will ideally include

office space and two large rooms from which to run groups such as the Skills for Life lessons, family ■ group sessions and baby mas sage,” explained the centre’s extended services co-ordinator Fiona Owen. “If anybody feels they may be

able to offer this sort of accom modation to rent please contact myself Fiona Owen or Julie Raine on 01200 423672 or 01200 443827.” Our picture shows, from left to
