GUEST speaker Ken Bowden called on his considerable experience as a librarian when he addressed members of Clitheroe and District Probus Club. : His subject was “Bacup Natural History


Society and Oddities of Bacup Museum” and his dry, witty approach both amused,


■^interested, puzzled and informed club members for a full hour. ' Starting with a brief resume of his career-

things, Mr Bowden then dealt with the his-: tory of the museum at Bacup.


. - Founded in 1878 by the newly-formed Natural History Society of Bacup it had various homes, ending up in 1947 in what had been the Hare and Hounds pub. The society proved a good training ground for scholars and officials who moved on to big­ ger and better things in other museums. ■ : The museum houses far too many items to absorb on a single visit, and includes
