Tliree-shot win in first Fourball

■|; t i!}.r i-tfl

CLITHEROE Golf Club’s first Fourball Stableford of the season proved to be a first for John Green and Tim Jackson- Smith.

A', 24-point return on the

back nine gave them a three- shot margin over Nigel Clowes and Doug Wheatley. Bill Wood and Dave Foster

made their presence felt with 40 points for third place. The two-man Texas

Scramble saw Denis Greenup and Tom Forrest produce six birdies in the last 11 for an impressive 64.25 nett, but they had to settle for third place behind the hea^yweight pair ing of Carl Drinkwater and Paul McGuire, whose five birdies brought them a 62.75 total for tOT spot. Mike Corish and Chris

Hamer gave nothing away, but their 63.75 nett was just one shot off the pace for second prize. Ken Mantle and Dennis Underwood claimed fourth place ahead of Richard Walsham and Dave McKenzie. Saturday’s Marriott Medal

and first Castle Cup Qualifier attracted a large entry in spite of the heavy going. Clive Wood and Tom

Forrest figured in a photo finish, both carding nett 69s, but .Wood got the nod for first place courte^ of a . sparkling back nine of 38. Forrest’s double bogey at

the penultimate hole proved to be costly. Daniel Preedy dropped only

three shots for a nett 71 for third prize after a card play off with Alex Cave and Steve Ackers on the same mark. Division Two was a triumph

for Paul Dunlop. Birdies at the short holes on the back nine gave him a nett 69 and a better back nine than K. Hunt, who w£« pleased to take second ■ prize with the same score. Malcolm Goldsworthy eased

into third spot with his 72, leaving Alan Wright and the evergreen John Greenwood to pick up the fourth and fifth prizes with nett 73s. Sunday’s Three-Man Team

and Scott ably: supported by Paul Nightengale returned a massive 76 points to give them a four-point margin over second placed team, Dom and Dan Preedy with a little help fi’om Julan Troup. : . Jeff; Crowther teamed up

Event was a family affair. The Greaves brothers, Peter
