WIPEOUT WANNABES: The group for Saturday’s programme, including Clitheroe’s Alex Ritchie
A CLITHEROE man will be bouncing, jumping and hurl ing himself across an obstacle course right in front of our eyes on Saturday. - - ■ Alex Ritchie is appearing on tel evision gameshow “Total Wipeout”
at 5 p.m. and will be shown attempt ing to negotiate its famously tough obstacle course.
. Over the past 18 months 300 con testants have taken on the Total Wipeout course and only a handful have made it over the Big Red Balls. Alex will be one of a fresh bunch of
contestants attempting to finish the show’s obstacle course and walk away £10,000 richer. This season Richard Hammond
and Amanda Byram are back to reveal a revamped course, which is now more than ever not for the faint-hearted.

I WRITE in response to the “Rias claim’^ story in last week’s newspaper, in which Allan Knox, the Ribble Valley Lib-Dera Prhamentary candidate, claimed that Ribble Valley. Media had been biased
m a recent pre-election political pro gramme.
^ e se programmes, I can only say that RVM is not biased in any way whatsoev- er. Indeed, our constitution emphasises that our internet radio station is aimed at serving the whole community. In line with that aim, we sought to
feature all of the candidates prior to the election.
_ It seems Mr Knox feels that Ron Loe-
bell, working alongside me on these pro grammes, was guilty of that bias. V, Mr Loebell is, as he openly states, the
• local UKIP agent. In his letter to all the candidates inviting them to take part ;J'9f''e®Iy.volunteered this information. Working with him on these programmes,
I can honestly say I saw no evidence of bias.
Equally, it was agreed beforehand that
whilst Mr Loebell could work on the pro grammes, I would have full control of all aspects of the shows featuring the candi dates-conducting the interviews, moni toring incoming emails and phone calls
and then posing any relevant questions. ■: . As the presenter and co-producer of i
pf political bias was unfounded Rack to the invitation to take part.
. didate, Steve Rush. Let us now correct an ambiguity: Mr
Alas, only two candidates responded positively - Mr Knox and the UKIP can-
Knox says he decided not to appear when he discovered that Mr Rush would appear in the “prime spot” on Saturday
May 1st (the last programme prior to the election).
'
. In fact, both Mr Knox and Mr Rush in itially asked to appear on Saturday April 24th. We allowed Mr Knox to have that slot out o f courtesy to him and pushed Mr Rush back a week. ■ Mr Knox says that, once the election frenzy” is over, he will seek a meeting
with RVM to discuss the whole issue We welcome that meeting.
^ It is also important fo say that Mr Loe bell has already tendered his resignation from RVM with immediate effect, so as to avoid any further embarrassment to RVM or negative press. • I-*B3lly, I thank Mr Knox for saying
that “there are many talented people involved with RVM who produce enter taining'and professional shows”. That is our aim: to produce even-handed, fair and balanced programmes for everyone who lives and works here.
SIMON KERINS, Ribble Valley Media
Clever young Jack has put his foot in it WHAT a clever little boy Jack Pimbley
would speak to anyone failing to do so.
How well he writes for a nine-year-old (Letters, April 29th). He must bring such
joy to his teachers, while his mother must be inordinately proud. Unfortunately, he
could not resist indulging in some gross exaggeration. Asa regular dog walker at Brungerley
Park, may I point out how very rare it is to find dog excreta on the paths. Jack’s description of “continually jumping from one side of the path to the other to avoid it^ rather indicates some kind o f over stimulation, perhaps brought about by the unusual act of taking a walk.
' Many of those who regularly walk
their dogs at Brungerley Park perform a servire which ensures a pleasant outing for the occasional visitor. Not only do they pick up their own dogs’ excreta, but
. T^cy b3ve also been known to report incidents o f vandalism, including of fensive graffiti and the lifebelt beuing
thrown into the river, and generally keep an eye on what goes on. Whatever faults dogs may have, they
do not bring beer cans and bottles to this beautiful place and leave them, some times smashing the bottles by throwing them at rocksg. They do not leave pizza boxes and plastic bags, or half-burnt- tents and sleeping bags and the remains of fires m inappropriate places.. So Jack, there is a lot worse that could
nave happened to your young brothers than to be greeted by a friendly dog.

CONGRATULATIONS to the commit tee of the Ribble Valley Jazz and Blues

^ mg last weekend s jazz festival — the first m 45 years.
The organisation was excellent, with a
very informative and well-designed bro chure giving clear details about the vari-: ous artists, where they were playing, tick-: et prices, times of performance, as well as a map showing the main venues. The’

However, somewhat surprisingly, the sound engineering of The Grand did not seem to be up to its usual veiy high
