ONE of Ribble Valley’s hardest work ing entrepreneurs is finally taking life a little easier after handing over the reins of his satellite TV empire to his son. .. David Dugdale, managing director of Clitlieroe-based dugdales digital, is step ping down after 20 years at the helm and . more than 45 years in the TV and satellite industry. ' He has now made his son Jonathan ■

Dugdale a director and handed over full control of the company. In 1989 David turned a former fruit

'Now, with the region’s old analogue signal turned off, and new developments such as High Definition and even 3D sat ellite TV, dugdales digital is a leader in the field. In 2006 and again in 2008 dugdales

his father into the business, having first at tained a degree in public relations. But he has spent several years in sales before set ting up his own AV installation company, Dugdales Commercial, in 2009. Taking up the reins of dugdales dig

Music to horse^s ears by Natalie Cox

A FORMER Stonyhurst College student has launched a new business venture inspired bv a famous equestrian. ■ Tom Hunt set up “Music 4 Dressage” earlier this

year and is believed to be the only UK composer oro- duemg original music for freestyle dressage. He has created musical programmes for well-known Lanca shire-based dressage competitor Sarah Turner and

IS now working with international Grand Prix rider Michael Eilbcrg. It was after seeing black stallion Moorland Totilas

compete at Hickstead last year that 23-year-old Tom was inspired to start creating original music specifi cally for freestyle dressage: “It made me realise that tile years of dedication and training that every rider commits to tliis sport deserves the highest quality mu sic production to achieve tlie best possible perform

ance,” said Tom, who studied composition at Leeds College of Music. Now working from his recording studio near Gis-

burn, Tom produces original music perfectly syn chronized to suit a rider’s individual requirements. He said: “I don’t think there’s another composer in

the UK writing original music scores for dressage rid ers. Until now riders have had to adapt existing music but it can be extremely difficult to find music that fits the dressage programme a rider wants to perform - or one that fits the horse’s capabilities. ,“In the beginning 1 was intrigued by the possibili

ties of the ‘freestyle’ and the concept of telling a story by unifying the discipline of dressage with the appro

Sarah Turner performed to Tom’s original composi tion “Victor Ludorum” and he also composed a piece “Spanish Steps” for another horse ridden by Sarah. Tom is now working with Michael Eilberg at his

base in Worcestershire and is composing an original piece of music for major competitions later in the year. His work with the Eilberg family is also the sub ject of a series of videos being filmed by the eques trian website ww^v.HorseHero.com: “Producing the film with Horse Hero.com will enable other riders to

priate musical accompaniment. This is something I now feel passionate about.” In the Prix Saint Georges freestyle winter rcgionals
