TWICE-YEARLY performances by the Barnbldswick Gilbert and Sullivan Soci ety hold an enduring appeal for many audience members who travel from the Ribble Valley each May and November. Indeed, several of the performers with

this friendly and enthusiastic group also travel from the Valley to fuel their love of all things “G&S”. Later this month the group is staging

one of its favourites, “The Gondoliers” - the fifth time it has done so, but the first time as a full produciton and not the abridged concert version. As in previous productions over the past

few years, it will also feature the beautiful young Jane Wheeler dancers, who are rev elling in such dances as the Andalusian

cachucha and the stately gavotte. The Gondoliers was premiered at the

Savoy Theatre in 1889 and ran for 554 performances, enjoying a longer run than any of their other joint works except for HMS Pinafore and The Mikado. To discover its timeless charm for your

self, don’t miss the performances at Barnoldswick Civic Hall, Station Road, on November 23rd, 24th and 25th, start ing at 7-30 p.m. Tickets are available now from Barnoldswick Council Shop or from ticket secretary Brian Hartley on 01282 815724. Pictured from the left are the four prin

cipals: John Shaw (Marco), Dorothy Dawes (Gianetta), Carole Crowther (Tessa) and Ken Burgess (Guiseppi) (s)
