THREE creative mem bers of Whalley Flower Club have been in a cel ebratory mood after picking up a gold award at the prestigious Southport Flower Show. Mrs Ann Leigh, of Bar-

row, Mrs Linda Goodbier, of Chatbum and Whalley resident Mrs Joyce Whit tle returned home tri umphant after winning the prize for their design based on a great mix,of celebrations. The award is the first

medal for the club in its 20-year history and club chairman, Mrs Margaret Jackson said its an abso lutely fantastic achieve ment not just for the club, but for the Ribble Valley itself. She commented: “We

were representing the local area of the National Asso ciation of Flower Arrange ment Societies (NAFAS) and it was an honour to be asked to exhibit at the show. “Members of the club

are thrilled to bits to win the award, which is regarded as one of the

most prestigious prizes in gardening. “It really is a reflection of their hard work and continuous dedi cation.” The winning design

Cheers! firm celebrates

A TASTE of success was

enjoyed by Booths super markets when it won a prestigious title.

The company, which has

a store in Ciitheroe, won the Regional Wine Chain

of the Year 2004 in the International Wine Chal lenge. Judges concluded that the chain had put an

enormous amount of

work into its wine list ensuring it offers quality

and diversity over a range of prices”. Accepting the award

winebuyer Sally Holloway said: “As we are particular to the North of England, Booths has the advantage of being able to maintain a strong regional identity, whilst still being able to compete with the national supermarkets in terms of price and quality. We are delighted to have been recognised for what is in fact central to Booths.” Special mention was

best” in gardening and landscape design. The winning design was mod elled on a small terraced house garden and repre sented a timepiece. The hours were marked out with etchings in glass

of some of the great flower collectors. The plants in the garden were those which have been intro duced from places as far away as China and Latin America to enrich the British gardening tradi

tion, while the hour hand was a beautiful revolving canopy that gave shade to visitors relaxing with a drink at the garden table. Mr Hensey is pictured above in his award-win ning garden.(s)
