. Died after surgery

RETIRED security guard Mr Kenneth Bloomfield died from complications of essen

tial surgery, ruled a coroner this week.; Mr Bloomfield (71), of BiUington Gardens,

Clitheroe, a former glass cutter, went into Blackburn Royal Infirmary in August for an operation to remove a cancer. Days later he developed pneumonia and there were signs of

septicaemia. Consultant surgeon Mr Lyndon Jones told . , .

'the inquest at Clitheroe on Monday that Mr Bloomfield’s condition was terminal in the

I absence of surgery.

I said Mr Bloomfield had been suffering from severe lung disease and his heart was enlarged. “From the point of view of the operation it

had been entirely successful. Unfortunately, any major surgical procedure produces a whole host of stresses and strains and these are all taken into consideration when considering ' whether to operate or not,” he told the mquest.
