One family ticket - that’s 2 adults and 2 children - to the Grand Cinema
"Pearl Harbor" (12) Grand Cinema, Clitheroe. Friday, June 29th at 7-00 i p.m.
PRODUCED by Jerry Bruckheimer, this "World War Two epic follows the lives of Air Force buddies Rafe (Ben Affleck) and Danny (Josh Hatnett) whose lives are thrown into chaos, when they both fall for nurse Evelyn
(Kate Beckinsale). That was before

December 7th 1941 - when, at 7-55 a.m. on a lazy Sunday morning, the Japanese armed forces launched a surprise bomb ing raid on the US naval fleet, riding at anchor in Pearl Harbor.
• In two hours they had
killed nearly 2,400 people, destroyed four battleships and drawn the United
States into World War II.
' The film's bombing sequences are astonishing, with the first-ever '^bomb's eye view" shot, which sees ' the camera follow a falling

of fact, Hollywood fiction, computer-generated images
and incredible camera work, that even offers an ending with a little surprise.
Paradise Moscow; Opera North; The
Lowry
THIS wonderful new pro duction by,the innovative and creative Opera North company is called a block busting musical comedy and
it is exactly that. The story largely concerns
three couples who are trying to set up home in a block of flats on the outskirts of Moscow, but they are being hindered by a corrupt hous ing official, his mistress and his equally corrupt sidekick, the block's manager.. Rachel Taylor is Lusya
the construction worker who is trying, to bring her boyfriend Sergei (Alan Oke) to make a real declaration of
l0VShe is fixing the WC while she sings of her love for him. This is one of the four ter
rific scenes at the beginning of the second act, all of which take place in a very clever set — a small cramped •flat in the middle of the
Lowry's huge stage. Boris (Loren Geeting), a
dissident who dresses like Elvis Presley, is trying to court the repressed museum guide Lidochka (Janie Dee). Another museum guide, Sasha (Daniel Broad) is des perate to move into his flat so that he can have some time alone with his wife Masha (Gillian Kirk- patrick), but as all the flats are identical, they end up with all their neighbours measuring up in their flat. The bureaucrat Drebednyov (Richard Angas) and the manager Barabashkin (Campbell Morrison) are hilariously funny in their amusing Laurel and Hardy
type of dancing duet. The whole performance is
such fun, and the Opera North team are to be con
gratulated.
