THE two long-established Kibble Valley accountancy firms of Edward Chester and Son and Pendlebury Gorst and Hoare are now in new offices

an^ w o nShave^efged with practices in Garstang and Bentham and will be

known as Towers + G o r o a l l . ___________________ __ The Clitheroe side of the

business will be based at the new Ribble Valley Enter prise Park, Barrow. These new offices are exceptional ly well appointed and highly accessible. There is plenty of room and also plenty of parking

space. Towers + Gornall will

-.maintain the long-estab- vlished offices in Garstang and Bentham, as well as the ultra-modern Barrow com

plex. Towers + Gornall, which

has clients all over the coun try, has traditionally had a large agricultural client base. The new firm will aim to develop its specialised agricultural department still further and its new size will enable small and medi um-sized limited companies to be serviced more e f fi ciently and professionally. The practice also acts for

numerous medical practi tioners and is keen to devel op this side of the business

further. Much emphasis is to be

placed on providing clients with a service to match their needs. This will include visits out of normal

office hours. The new firm hopes to act

for all its original clients and to retain the personal touch of the old firms - clients will still be dealing with the partner who looked after their affairs before the

merger. The traditional standards

of professional and personal service to which they are accustomed are consolidat-

ed, and perhaps even widened, by the firms' move down the road. To deal with the added

workload as efficiently as possible, there will be 11 partners and more than 30 support staff. The new complex at Barrow will benefit from the latest com puter technology and spe cialist VAT and PAYE departments will be avail able for advice with any

problems. With difficult times being

experienced by many clients in the agricultural sector, the practice has developed its own expertise in relation to benefits, especially the Working Family Tax Cred it. This expertise is obvious ly available to all clients in the new merged practice. Based at the Barrow

office will be the managing partner Tom Bennett, as well as five other partners - Ken Taylor, Edward Hoare, David Lynch, Gary Cottam and Michael Gornall. The practice manager is

Stephen Foster, a former N a t West Bank manager, who is also able to advise clients on their dealings with banks from a well- informed perspective. The senior partner of

Towers + Gornall, William Richmond, says: "We are pleased to welcome all clients to the merged prac tice and look forward to continuing to provide them with a friendly, efficient, prompt and professional service with a reasonable fee

Helpful advice for those affected by area’s foot and mouth crisis

THE foot and mouth crisis offers a classic textbook situ ation for Towers + Gornall and their farming clients which would be hard to

invent. "Agriculture's situation is

testing enough, but those farmers who have lost their stock are in a tricky and com plex tax position and probably urgently need the right advice to protect their future," emphasises senior

partner MrWilliam Rich __

mond. "Various tax regimes meet

up with each other at the farm gate and professional

help is vital. "The ways forward for

farmers wanting to re-stock and for those wanting to retire or to hand over their business to someone can be quite different. "Long term decisions need to be made and implemented

in a way that leaves as many options open for the future as

possible." Towers + Gornall will be

pleased to speak to anyone seeking advice. Existing

clients can expect to be con tacted with ideas for their own situation, as part of the firm's pro-active approach.

the crisis but who are not in agricultural businesses can also benefit from Government concessions which take their difficulties into consideration. Here again, professional

advice is needed to make the best of each individual situa
