L ITH E RO E manager Dave Burgess looks set to strengthen his squad fur

Fogarty and ex-Rossendale United midfielder Danny Heys have held

talks with Burgess this week. Twenty-two-year-old winger

Fogarty, who impressed while play ing for Great Harwood Town last season, seems certain to sign for the

Blues. Heys (22), who originates from

Burnley, spent the second half of last season at St Helens Town and would probably welcome a move nearer to his home town. Burgess said: “They are both

good, young players with experi ence at Northwest Counties' level so they would be good additions to

the squad. I am hoping Richard Fogarty will sign this week.

i ’ Meanwhile, club captain Barrie

Hart has spurned overtures from UniBond League First Division outfit Chorley to stay at Shaw-

bridge. The marauding left-back was the , , ..

only player from last season’s suc cessful squad who had yet to com mit his future to Clitheroe but after extensive talks with Burgess has decided to sign for a third season. Burgess added: “I am delighted

Barrie has signed again. “Obviously being the club cap

tain everybody was looking to him

to see what he was going to do. “He has been on contract for the

past two seasons but he’s come off that now.

“But it means that out of last season’s squad, only Neil Reynolds

. , ,

has left.” Hart and the rest of his team

mates got their first work-out on

Saturday when they entertained a strong Blackburn Royers team in their first pre-season friendly. Graeme Souness sent a team

including the likes of Alan Kelly, Simon Grayson and Marlon Broomes to Shawbridge and despite a valiant effort by the Blues, they were beaten 3-0. Burgess added: “I t was a good

game and a great experience for our lads to play against these players. “I wouldn’t say we matched them but for long periods I thought

we did well. “When we gave the ball away it

took us a long time to win it back. “But I ’ve said before that all we

are focused on is being ready for the start of the NWC season on August

18th.” The Blues have received a slight . J . .

setback with the news that midfield lynchpin Carl Greenwood may miss the start of the new season. Greenwood is to have a cortisone
