Valley in local
exclusive story by Natalie Cox
A RIBBLE VALLEY pub is prov- ing to be a fitting place to hold a
spiritual service. • As churchgoers have always found room
somewhere a t the inn since the bir th o Jesus, choosing to hold a mid-week Holy Communion service in a village hostelry looks to be providing the perfect solution for one Valley vicar.
On Thursday morning the Rev. Chris _ .
Sterry and 15 members of the congregation from Whalley Parish Church convened at
. the Dog Inn, King Street, for the weekly half-hour communion service.
At a church council meeting this week,
warden Mrs Barbara Johnson reported tha t all those who had attended had been warmly welcomed to the new temporary venue. She added th a t i t had been a very reverent service in a very welcoming
atmosphere. n

proved more of a problem until pub land lord Mr Norman Atty stepped in offering his pub as an alternative venue. "It is part of the hospitality of an old village inn,
• Following the inaugural service he said . . ,
the reaction from villagers had been very positive. "I have been surprised how many people in the village have commented favourably on it and have asked if every thing went all right," said Mr Atty. "There has been a very positive reaction, not a negative one at all. I t is an example of the church going out to the community." Our p h o to g rap h shows Mr S te r ry
