Lack of affordable housing causing a major problem
A CALL for action to be
I taken to make housing I more affordable for peo ple in rural areas of the Ribble Valley has been I made by Mr Michael
Democrat Parliamentary I candidate Mr Carr said this
Carr. Prospective Liberal
week that the lack of affordable housing in places
like Clitheroe, Longridge and the Ribble Valley’s vil lages was causing a major, problem, especially for I young people just starting
| out. I "In Ribble Valley, where housing is considerably more expensive than in
neighbouring districts, many young people have no chance of living in the area they grew up in and are forced to move to Black burn, Accrington, Burnley or Preston to obtain accommodation," he com
mented.Mr Carr said that the Liberal Democrats would end the 50% council tax rebate on second homes and invest the money in social housing. The party would also allow local authorities discretion to reclassify dis used agricultural buildings as housing for local use, to allow teachers and nurses working in the area to rent or buy the property.
