ate a slight sense of deja vu among seasoned Jaguar-spotters, due in no small part to their debut on the F-TYPE concept car. The nine-spoke wheels
look effortlessly muscu lar on the XJR100, fill ing the wheelarches menacingly and afford ing a strobing glimpse of the massive silver Brem- bo brake calipers and cross-drilled ventilated
discs. The interior contin
ues the funereal theme, the seats finished in Warm Charcoal Autolux leather. The dashboard is trimmed in dark grey-stained bird’s eye mapie.

HAT a place to land. Were the funkily named Nissan X-
Trail 2.2Di Sport a space probe, it would have probably folded up its solar panels and died - the terrain is just too inhospitable. This sector is stuffed to the
far horizon with unfriendly aliens looking to clobber your sales figures into nothingness. The X-Trail boasts a
decent engine, taken from the Primera range. The addition of a common rail head has

bumped the available torque up nicely to 1991b/ft, although the 114 b.h.p. power output remains unchanged. You will see 60 m.p.h. tick
by in 13.5 seconds on the way to a decidedly subsonic top speed of 103 m.p.h., but thrashing along autobahns is hardly the X-Trail’s home turf. A combined fuel economy

now takes under 12 seconds and, more significantly, the greater
torque means that you can access all 105 b.h.p. from lower speeds,which means fewer gearchanges around town.
Otherwise, the package is just
as you would find in any of the other Scenic models, constantly being revised to keep at the fore front of the growing mini-MPV
sector. Prices start at around £14,400
and there is a trim choice that
covers all but the most basic trim level: in other words, RT, Alize, Sport, Sport Alize, RXE and
