- Welcoming back Ian Fielding in the centres and Steve Taylor at no. 8, after too long an absence from first-team colours, Clitheroe looked as strong as ever. From the very first scrummage
on the tro t.
the Clitheroe eight had the Black burn pack reversing at full steam. This set the tone for the rest of
j back when hooker Mike Wilyman went on a surging 30-metre run,
the game and the Clitheroe pack's dominance in the set piece denied Blackburn any quality ball to use. Blackburn went ahead with a penalty, but Clitheroe soon struck
skittling defenders left, right and centre to score. Taylor was next on the score-
sheet with a simple touchdown from a pushover scrum.

S u t to n ....................................0 Riming ton ...........................8 AFTER suffering their
first defeat of the season the previous week Rim- ington bounced back in
fine style. They took some time to
find their feet and Sutton had a good chance to take the lead, but a forward headed
wide. This gave Rimington the
jolt they needed and Rimmer and Parkinson set up Geldard to volley home and give them
the lead. Lethal finishing from Rim

soon after the break when a mistake on the half-way line let Taylor m and he ran through to finish strongly. There was also an emphat ic finish from Marsden to
make it 5-0. This then enabled manager
Geldard to shuffle the pack and substitute Paul Sayle took full advantage of this to complete a genuine hat-trick. Sutton could not cope with
Rimington's passing game, or their speed in breaking down the opposition's play to win themselves possession. The win takes the side to
the third round of the North ern Plant Hire Trophy with great expectations.
W o lv e s b a ttle through to h a rd -fou gh t w in
a hard-fought win over tough opposi C
tion. ■ Second-half goals from Sam Rayner and
Luke Jackson gave them a 2-1 victory over
Salterforth Under 8s. Charlie Collinge battled well in midfield,
and William Tyrell was man-of-the-match. Joseph Nightingale played well after com
ing on as a substitute. The Under 13s from the Blackburn
League had another good result, beating Great Harwood Rovers 6-0 at Memorial
Park. Jordan Walmesley was the star of the
show again with three goals. The others came from Jack Dearden, Martin Greatorex and Oliver Bolton. Daniel Green, Thomas Blockeel and
Cem Karakurum all had good games. The Under 9s were in action in two
games - a friendly and a league match away to Readstone United. The friendly ended in 2-1 win with
Daniel Meyler and Stephen Tandy scoring the goals. Ceiron Barton performed well at
, the back. The league clash between the two sides
ended in a 1-1 draw after a tight affair in which both sides missed penalties. The only goal for Wolves came from Ben
Frankland with Adam Barton being voted man-of-the-match. The Under 12s overcame both the oppo sition and elements to record a 7-1 victory
over Bacup Borough. Once again Jake Chadwick top-scored
with three goals while Michael Barker got

two and Phil North and man-of-the-match Jack Fielding scored one each. Tom Hibble was outstanding in goal sav ing a penalty as well as handling superbly
in difficult conditions. In the Under 16s local derby the Wolves
carrie out 3-2 winners over Readstone Unit ed.
In blustery conditions both sides found
it difficult to find their rhythm, but it was Readstone who took the lead early in the
game. Clitheroe quickly replied with a goal
from Liam Hill Parker, only to go in 2-1 down at half-time after an unfortunate own
goal. . ' In the second half the Wolves came out
the strongest of the two sides and equalised through a tremendous strike from Hill
Parker. The play went from endrto-end, but a
free kick from Tom Smith won the points for Clitheroe. Man-of-the-match was
David Downes. Wolves Under 13s beat Bacup Borough .
11-0 at Maden Rec at the weekend. Daniel Bush was the goal-hero with five,
and there were strikes from William Tat- tersall, Clive McLean (2) James Hartle- bury (2) and James Warburton. Peter Dibb was named man-of-the-match. Despite having the majority of the
chances, including Jay Howard hitting a post, the Under 9s in the Accrington League went down 1-0 to Oswaldtwistle
Juniors. Both Kurt Roberts and Christopher
Williams had good games for the Wolves. T he two Under 11s sides were cruelly drawn to play each other in the Accrington
League cup competition. In the end it was the Reds who ran out
winners over the Blue team 6-2. The first goal was all-important, but in fact the Reds managed three within the
first 10 minutes. William Aspinall got the first, then Dale
to make it 4-0. Both sides applied pressure after the
break before Aspinall completed his hat- trick to put the result beyond doubt. A superb low, hard shot from Sam
Williamson and an own goal gave the Blues some hope before another solo effort from Campbell saw a looping header drop m the
corner of the net. Both keepers deserve credit - Steven
Thompson for the Reds and James Scriven er for the Blues - but the real winner was football and the Wolves club itself.
