Blues boss aims to build on good win
By JUSTIN CONNOLLY
NEW Clitheroe boss Steve Parry is hoping his side can build on Monday n ig h t ’s convincing win over Rossendale and achieve some consistency and stability. I t has taken the new man

better sides. “If we can do th a t we
should be able to put a bit of a run together. “We visit Bootle on Sat urday and play Holker n the
cup on Monday. “These two games will be
in the Shawbridge hot-seat a few weeks to become accli matised to his new sur roundings and get to grips with his players’ strengths and weaknesses. But on Monday the side
showed he is making progress and Parry himself wants to see the confidence return.! “We showed on Saturday
we can compete with the top sides,” he said after Monday’s game. “But I want us to be per forming at that kind of level
all the time. “We should be beating the poor teams easily and
tough but are important because we have to keep building on the progress we
are making. “If we can put a series of

Clitheroe......................................................3 Rossendale United..............................1 AN inspirational performance from Dennis Hill and superb home debut from midfield-marshall Carl Green wood earned Clitheroe three points
on Monday. Rossendale United were the visitors
and it was a crucial game for new Blues’
boss Steve Parry. He knew that if Clitheroe were to lose
they would slip down below Rossendale
in the table. He needn’t have worried. It would not be fair to say Rossendale
were a pushover — they battled well and what their football lacked in craft it made up for with commitment. Clitheroe made life hard for them
selves, giving the ball away too easily in dangerous situations. That said the Rossendale goal was
born out of error on behalf of full-back Dave Bennett - without that error it seemed unlikely Rossendale would have found it in themselves to beat Clitheroe
keeper John Parrott. Bradshaw was outstanding, showing
plenty of box-to-box stamina, a neat touch on the ball and aggression in the tackle. But it was Hill who shone on the left,
into something of a scrappy affair. Neither side could carve out any more

real chances before the break and Glitheroe went in a goal to the good. When Bennett’s short back-pass

thoughts were dismissed. Greenwood flicked the ball in from
the right and Dave Gardner turned and shot home from 10 yards to restore

least a point. .That they did not was not down to
any failing on their part, but more down to some odd, disputable decisions by the
referee. Clitheroe started superbly and the
game was just five minutes old when Paul Lynch pounced to give the Blues
the lead. He took advantage of some slack Kidsgrove defending to nip in and volley
the ball home. The Grove tried to hit back and pro-

goal was on good form and pulled off a
great save from Paul Kiely. Clitheroe then came back into things
and began to dominate the game. Left-wing wizard Dennis Hill was
causing all sorts of problems and expos ing the nerves of a nervy Kidsgrove
defence. Despite his good work Clitheroe were
unable to break through and remained just a goal to the good at the break. Soon after the break Parrott was back in action as Kidsgrove fought to get
back on level terms. He was inspired when free-scoring Scott

the spot-kick home. It proved a turning point in the game as Kidsgrove came forward with
renewed vigour. Clitheroe looked solid enough at the

defence down when Dundas ran down the right to score for former Blue Jason
