score moving on, and then removed Neil Fitzmaurice after he and Hacking
had shared 15. Now it was just a case of bowling
Northern out for the bonus points before the overs ran out, and Dewhurst and Fielding duly completed the job with three balls left of the final over. Fielding finished with 7-49, while Dewhurst returned 3-38. Clitheroe had a bit of a shaky start in reply, losing skipper Phil Bishop with the score on five to Billcliff, and Neil Bolton to Hacking on 32, but Andy Robinson and Fielding dug in and put the locals within sight of the winning post, Robinson reaching his half-centu-

on 25. Dewhurst and Simon Bishop then took
wickets a t regular intervals, and Immanuel finished on 175-8, Dewhurst taking 4-65 and Bishop 3-53. The run chase had a disastrous start as Immanuel had Clitheroe struggling on 40-5, with only Fielding making double figures. But Bums and Steven Whalley turned
the match around for the locals with a partnership of 69, Bums finally bowled

He hit the wickets four times, trapped one home batsman leg-before and grabbed four more wickets to finish with 9-31
off 13.5 overs. That performance left the Padiham innings in tatters. They eventually limped to 76 before losing their final wicket. Singh was on song from the start. Having conceded nine runs off his first three deliveries, he
skittled Joe Grant with his fourth ball. Two overs later Tripathi was back in the pavilion having suf
fered the same fate and from 18-1 the score slumped to 18-5 as Sharif, Phil Metcalfe and Neil Anderson all followed with
out scoring. Nasir Mehmood and Andrew Robinson were later to finish
as joint top-scorers with 17 runs apiece. But they could not right the wrongs of the tumbling wickets
earlier in the innings and Padiham closed on 76. Padiham professional Grant did enjoy some early success in
the Ribblesdale reply. John Rain and Martin Davies were both back in the club
house with the score on 28. Singh the demon bowler became Singh the demon batsman.
Arbories to face defending champions Padiham
After a patient start he opened up and finished with an unbeaten 47 off 60 deliveries. Not surprisingly, Ribblesdale won with more than half their overs to spare. The following day saw a different story. High-flying Blackburn Northern were the visitors to Church Meadows, and they went away with a 61-run victory.
Northern had first use of the wicket, and although David Howard had opener Gillibrand caight by Ian Britcliffe on 13, paid man Ian Billcliff and skipper Nigel Robbins proved
inseparable at the crease. Both raced to centuries as Northern totted up a daunting
total of 226-1. After taking that superb nine-wicket haul the day before, Singh was frustrated, conceding 85 runs without
claiming a victim. Davies and Singh put together a bright start in reply before
losing the former with the score on 49 to Hacking. Hacking struck again to remove Singh (36) and skipper Stephen Proctor (2), but Martin Briggs and Howard put the locals back on track with a fine partnership of 78 to take the score to 144. But once Howard fell to Hacking on 33, Wanderers col lapsed, losing their last six wickets for just 21 runs. Hacking finished with figures of 765, with Briggs finally
removed after a gritty 64, caught by Weaver off Billcliff. Wanderers’ inconsistency continues to plague them, but they
will have a chance to reproduce the form that accounted for Padiham against fellow strugglers Settle at Church Meadow on Saturday.

After watching Settle produce a steady innings and a middle-of-the-road total, Read opened their reply full of confi dence — only to see their efforts washed-out after just 10 overs. Settle had set a gettable total by com piling 166-6 off their 45 overs. Read had set about the task well and were ahead of the run-rate when the rain intervened.
