IT S A TOP-CLASS PUBLICATION
A FASCINATING insight into school life around the Ribble Valley — th a t’s “Top Class”. Produced by young newshounds at seven
primary schools, the 16-page tabloid publication has been written, designed and produced by the pupils and their teachers before being published by the “Clitheroe
Advertiser and Times”. It contains lots of accounts about what is
happening in each school and the youngsters have also written plenty about themselves. Taking part were Sabden County Primary
School; Thorneyholmc RC Primary School, Dunsop Bridge; Waddington CE Primary School;
St Michael and St John’s RC Primary School, Clithcroe; St Mary’s RC Primary School, Sabden; Gisburn County Primary School; and Read CE

Primary School. It is part of this newspaper’s continuing ■
commitment to the Newspapers in Education initiative and, we are told, the children thoroughly ■' enjoyed their work in producing “Top Class”. The pages have been sponsored by local busi-
nesses and shops and, with word searches, crosswords, poems, jokes, quizzes, topics on teeth ' and fire safety, interviews, pictures and competitions — plus a colouring competition — they are packed with interesting items. With a message of support from Ribble Valley
MP Nigel Evans, who is currently engaged in a rolling programme of visiting all the schools in the
area, “Top Class” is exactly that. Copies arc available from the schools involved,
with the cover price of 25p going to school funds.

This project is extremely worthwhile and I wish to congratulate all those who have taken part to make it such a success. I am taking more than an active interest in education in the Ribble Valley and am currently engaged in a rolling programme of visiting a# the schools in the area.
It is projects such as this publication which help to disseminate to the wider audience the initiative, imagination, and enthusiasm that young people have and . which must be enhanced.
Wishing you every success for the future, • . • . ( y y ^ ■ •!
