A PAIR of acrobats presented a “tall, order” for. Clitheroe sculptor . Clare Bigger when she went to work on her latest creation. : Her mission was to build a 20ft tall sculp
ture for the Birmingham Midshires Bulding Society and, with the aid of scaffolding, she

sculptor at Cardiff Art College six years ago and has taken her three months to complete. She has worked on the sculpture at Ron Carter’s forge, although Clare is self-employed. “I built the sculpture up the middle of the scaffold- ■
ing, using welding, cutting and pipe-bending equip-, ment,” said Clare (28), of Lihgfield Avenue. Clare, whose husband, Jason, works for an oil com
pany, moved to Clitheroe from Oxfordshire two years ago. Most of her sculptures are a celebration of move
ment and this is also true of her Wolverhampton mas terpiece. She was asked to base her sculpture on the building society’s logo which features acrobats, but was allowed to use her own ideas for interpreting the two figures. She fashioned a miniature version on which to base her final sculpture before carrying out her own “acrobatic” task on the scaffolding. Another of her creations is to be found at Clitheroe
railway station in the shape of Henrietta, the hippo potamus made from an old Mini car. Clare was bom in Nairobi, the daughter of an Irish

RIBBLE VALLEY has had another win in the National Lottery with the news that the Citi zens’ Advice Bureau has been granted £8,259 to extend an important project throughout the whole area.
