NURSERY nurse training and development has been part of the College’s agenda for 60 years and more — a fact that has long been praised by the profession’s
supervisors. As a continuing
development of skills in this popular and in-demand jobs field, the College has introduced an Advanced Diploma in Nursery Nursing which is principally for people employed within nurseries who want to improve their •• prospects and qualifications.

- Thursday The normal way of achieving this would
be by two years of day release study at College. But, as employers are not always happy to allow key staff away from work, the College is offering this Open Learning opportunity. There will be a variety of aspects to this
study: Electronics, Electrical Engineering, Instrumentation and Multi-disciplinary Engineering. "We are going to see how the
programme goes. Students will be offered a form of tutorial provision so they are not entirely on their own for study. "Often we will arrange telephone
sessions, for example, and whatever else suits the student in his or her studies,” explained John Wilkinson, higher education manager.
Hi-tech and proud!
TWO key themes run throughout the Faculty of Business and Technology — Open Access and
High Technology. As elsewhere in the College, state-of-the-art Information Technology Is embedded In every
course. Staff are proud that their students are using
hl-tech equipment that will give them a first-class grounding for the future. And the College itself Is the leading
North-west further education centre In the field of IT. There are even courses where you would least
expect to find the latest computerised equipment — such as in art and design.
Eventually, staff hope to use tele-conferencing
via a link-up between home TVs and the College to provide study “ down the tube.”
This will be Incorporated into the OPEN
ACCESS programme which the faculty Is offering through many of its courses, particularly in the construction and engineering crafts.
OPEN ACCESS means that students have tremendous flexibility of choice of how to study.
